After final cuts, how many guys and at what positions do we get from waivers?

To be fair to Slye.  Let's note Carolina did lead the NFL in touchback %.  87.5% of his kickoffs are touchbacks.

a middle of the road NFL had 59% touchbacks.  The worst was 33%.

so he does provide some very good consistency on that front.

Yeah, as others have said, this matters a lot less now with the 25 yard starting position.

So, man, Slye just can't catch a break. The league just recently changed the rule on the one thing that could make his skillset valuable to an NFL team.

Remember the days when we carried two kickers because there was such a thing as a "Kickoff Specialist?" Yeah, I don't think anyone's giving up a roster spot these days to let the opposition start on the 25.

I'd cut Slye a break if he didn't shank everything right.

He needed to gtfo in the offseason.

Luvu has been making plays. Looks to be solid depth. Not sure about how his speed holds up in coverage, but he plays fast downhill. I'm not arguing, just didn't want to forget someone who's having a great preseason.

THIS.

Tbh, when we picked him up I wasnt excited at all. I'm now certain he makes this team. I actually thought Miller would make the 53 ..and he still might but as of now he's behind Luvu.

As for the thread topic.... OL, Corner (injuries), and LB.

Side note: We keep getting gashed in the run. That needs to be fixed. Last time we were getting destroyed by the run game we countered it by drafting a guy name Kuechly.

Last year, we got lucky and picked up Chinn. Now he's a safety and the last line of defense. We need somebody infront of him. Perryman's health cant be counted on but hopefully Carter Jr and Shaq can step up.

Then again, I haven't seen enough of the starters to identify if its truly going to be a problem. This Steelers game should show us alot.

Ive change my feeling toward LB, so long perryman is able to play.

Shaq

Carter

Perryman

Luvu

Stanford

Johnson

They look better than I thought- Chinn, Reddick, Miller, Bynes, Frankin could help some or factor in as well. Sure it needs improving, but its as bad as I thought.

Plus Patty fisher to the PS.

Not in panic mode. Can get by this yr and focus on improving next.

That didn't change until they drafted Starr and Short - remember Fua and McClain. They were the equivalents of Cam's Silatolu and Nate Chandler (and Byron Bell). Starr allowed Luke to be Luke better than anyone else and losing him may have even taken a couple of seasons away from Luke's career.

Bump...so Slye has been cut and now we are looking for 1-2 LBs.  Ricci is getting more looks at FB, but honestly they are just trying to find him a home since he's a good STer.  Ricci isn't a FB so one should be brought in.  I still expect an OT (swing, most likely) and a young, promising DE to be picked up off waivers.

Because lots of teams waive OT's worth keeping and young promising DE's?

I know it's shock, but some teams draft well and are wise with FA moves.  There's only so many positions are available on the 53 man roster, so yeah, there are very serviceable players available after final cuts.  Just because we suck at building depth; that isn't the case for every team in the NFL.

They occasionally will cut old vets that are still decent….but are expensive and they feel comfortable making the replacement after a full preseason.
