Honestly this is my concern. This isn't the same league as it was when the Brad Johnsons and Trent Dilfers if the world were winning Super Bowls. They keep tweaking the rules because they want high flying offense and that's what they're gonna get.

Yeah, I know. I still love the NFL, but I honestly miss the days of, what I would call, "real" defense.

But if we can create turnovers, and possess the ball on offense in terms of time advantage, maybe we can finesse things that way. I'll hope until I'm disillusioned anyway, lol.

What if Mitch is actually the best QB in the NFL but didn't want to be on the Bears?

That would mean Prez Trump will win a Congressional seat in FL and ascend to Speaker of the House and then resume the Presidency after Joe and Kamala are both unseated...

...point being --- NFW either of those scenarios have even a speck of merit.

People don't like to hear it, but Trubisky has shown more promise on an NFL field than Darnold. If we were going with a veteran non-Watson QB, my preference was 1. Gardner Minshew 2. Mitchell Trubisky. Honestly, Darnold wasn't even on the list.

I was there with ya man.

Minshew has potential.  In his two seasons with Jacksonville, Minshew is 7-13.  Not wonderful, but it's the Jags.  The flip side of that coin however is that WITHOUT Minshew, the Jags are 0-12.

Trubisky as well.  I mean, what kind of players was he surrounded with?  Not much better than Darnold, if at all.  And yet Trubisky is 29-21 overall, and a 64% passer.

Both have produced more than Darnold, and NEITHER would have cost us a second round pick.

I really think the front office wanted boom or bust.  Either we got a great QB to sort us out for the next 10 years, or we got an awful QB to lead us to the top pick next spring.

Yeah, the value to risk was very good for Trubiski imho. I wanted him &/or Minshew. I'm hopeful for Darnold, but he wasn't who I wanted.

What I'm really hoping is that our defense grows to be good enough that our offense is set up in good positions - both in terms of field position and score - so that we don't have to lean on that side of the ball too heavily.

I think that's the direction our team is trending overall.

I'm a defensive fan, first and foremost, so believe you me it pains me a bit to say this.

We've tried that philosophy from moment one and it hasn't really succeeded.

Our saving grace within the division is that the Saints' qb situation is a mess, Ryan can't go too much longer in Atlanta, and Brady eventually has to retire god damnit.  The law of averages says so.

Regardless, I'm not convinced that the Sam Darnold offense can score enough to win a SB, and honestly I haven't seen enough of Trubisky to know if he'd be any better.

I'm suspecting we're going to have to trade up next year for the likes of Howell or someone close to him.

Balt and Pitt will live on in my heart.

The hell with 49-42.

Give me hard-nosed football all day long.

Hopefully Sam works out, but Mitch is on a one year contract in Buffalo, just in case we have to start our search again.

If Sam doesn't work out and we sign Trubisky to solve our QB issue, I am gonna be shoveling coal into the boiler of the Fire Rhule train.

Me too. I sure hope we were wrong!

    • I want to throw in how much easier it is for a QB to develop and improve with a good oline.  Huge credit to the front office for spending the money on our two guards.  Cade Mays also had a 2nd really good game starting at center.  Love how he has developed and hope he's the real deal. Look at what Stroud is dealing with now in Houston after injuries and problems with their oline.  Strouds accuracy has been greatly affected as it seems like he doesn't trust his protection. Canales is doing a great job developing Bryce.  I think the QB whisperer might be for real. And obviously big props to Bryce.  First round pick that looks horrible in his first year.  Different coaches and systems.  Fans and media are calling him the biggest bust in NFL history and he looked like it in the first two games this year.  Gets benched.  Young man keep his cool and just continued to work and only worry about what he can control.  I hope things continue like this and we end up with a great success story. Bryce Young kept pounding.
    • Outside of Philly (who currently is #3 in pass defense) the rest of our remaining opponents are bottom 1/3 of the League in that regard.  Let's see what Bryce can do versus bad pass Ds.
