What does CJ Saunders hype mean for WR depth chart?

In Rhule's presser yesterday, he specifically mentioned that he was eager to see CJ Saunders get live reps at punt return, almost as if he is #1 returner on depth chart. (He also mentioned Shi as a returner.)

Seems like Trenton Cannon might be in the mix as KR.

Wondering what this could mean for the WR depth chart?  

How many do you think make the team? How would you rank them?

Here's my guess: I think we keep 7.

1A & 1B: DJ & Robby 

3. Terrace Marshall 

4 & 5: David Moore & Shi Smith.

Now it gets tricky:

4 or 5 guys, maybe 2 spots.

Zylstra, Saunders, Cannon, Kirkwood? or Bayless?

My gut says Zylstra & Saunders, but I'm finding it hard to rule out Cannon because of versatility. RB/ WR / KR.  Not a bad guy to keep around. (Reminds me a bit of why we kept Joe Webb around for so long.)

Thoughts?

Obviously tomorrow nights game will be pretty huge for this group of guys, especially on Special Teams.

I still feel like we are just hedging bets at the return position but I hope Rhule has a plan. Let us see good things this season!

those last 5 are good enough to make a team, and I can see the Saints taking one we let go.  It's nice to have this problem though.  I agree with Cannon, like Rhule said last year "the more you can do", but we'll see.  We are loaded at WR, and we'll be losing Robby for sure, that may play a part in keeping an extra one on this year's team.

It means it's an open competition, as it always should be, and the best man (or the most versatile man potentially, when dealing with the bottom of the roster) will win.

There’s a camp star WR on every team every year and they usually don’t make the team. I’d say this is probably the outcome here.

Somebody cod be part of a trade. 

A hunch Zylstra is a ST lock. Somebody has to play it.

A hunch Bayless is practice squad if Saunders pleases.

I can see it braking several ways

1. We have an aging long snapper that could be replaced for cheap.

2. Fletcher could be a "special" long snapper. (As special as a LS can be)

3. We had a plethora of low round picks to throw around.

4. He can be protected on the practice squad and not have to play this year.  Imagine if we could have protected Butker.  Bad comparison because the importance of the positions, but eh.

Six receivers with Cannon taking the last spot for returner duties. It's a great group but that seventh guy's spot is needed for o-line depth.

Keep the best players. For the first time in maybe forever, we might be forced to actually release an NFL caliber WR.
