I have to see this guy…..in my youth, got to see everyone that was anyone live.  Beatles, Stones, Hendrix, Eagles, Janis Joplin, Clapton, Traffic, etc etc etc.  normally, I strongly dislike country music…,closest I’ve ever been to liking anything country related was working with Johnny Cash’s first wife, Vivian, who was a wonderful lady, loved her.

He’s not really country, he’s not to be pigeon holed.  Never heard this range or talent from any country singer.  Now this. Metallica cover?

Chris Stapleton is more R&B/blues than country.

I agree.  As I said on another thread on here, I’m A big Blues fan, so so was stunned to hear that amazing voice coming out of a guy with all that hair wearing a cowboy hat.  Mind blowing.

There is actually a lot of damn good country out there right now. You won't hear it on the radio, but guys like Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers, Cody Jinks, Colter Wall, Paul Cauthen, Ward Davis, etc. are fuging killing it right now. Honest to god, we might actually be in the golden era of country and most people have no clue.

Tried listening to it (my daughter and SIL love it), they’ve seen some big names in concerts at the Ryman, as well as some arena in Nashville they say is too big,  Hang Out Fest in Alabama and a couple venues in Kentucky.  They also like Sturgil Simpson, Jason Isbell and others you named.  I’ve heard them all….just don’t like that music at all…so my friends are shocked I’m such a big fan of Stapleton.  My daughter has been telling me about him and his wife Morgane for years.  Should have listened.

Saw Chris when Jason Isbell opened up for him in Maryland awhile ago. He’s better live than recordings. Incredible voice. I’d add Orville peck to the country list and I never see him mentioned probably because he’s openly gay and has drag queens open up for him on his tours. He has an amazing voice and is extremely talented. Sounds like Roy Orbison.

covers Reba here

he was a drummer in a pretty famous punk band in Canada. Very talented guy. Love his albums.

Add Jason Isbell, Zach Bryan, Ian Noe, John Moreland in this list
