Is he quick to make changes with players others have brought in or himself?

I was shocked how quick they gave up on Teddy, will he be the same with Sam?

Both. Keep in mind the buck does ultimately stop with Rhule, although the efforts are collaborative. He has jettisoned a lot of guys that he brought in that didn't work out.

I was surprised about Teddy but moreso because I thought the contract would be an issue to dump. I think he will pull the pin on Darnold just as quickly.

Like I said, he may make a lot of mistakes early in his career but he is possibly the most decisive coach we have ever had when it comes to changing direction on a player decision.

They were PISSED with Bridgewater by the end. He was a poor culture fit for the team AND he played scared with the ball.

Darnold doesn't have either of those problems, but they absolutely will move on from him quickly if he puts up similar stats to his Jets numbers.

Give Panthers coach Matt Rhule credit for pulling on local knowledge when asked about how he feels about his offensive line. ‘'We're like I-85. We're a work in progress.'' Nobody mentioned I-85 has been under construction for many, many years. But Rhule did say if the season started today Cameron Erving would start at LT and Taylor Moton at RT.

Rhule isn't Rivera. He doesn't play favourites.

I agree with everything else in your post except this.

All coaches play favorites to some degree. Rhule has flexed his Temple and Baylor preferences already and rightly so (dance with the ones that brung ya so to say). And he doesn't have enough time in coaching for us to really see any tendencies, except that even after lackluster results last season he stuck by his OC, DC and SC.

And there were troubling games where he kept sending in Teddy Bridgewater even after it was obvious Teddy wasn't getting it done.

This year will tell us a lot, hopefully it will be good news. Right?

He's brought in guys he's familiar with to fill out the depth of the roster. Who's come in from Baylor or Temple that has let us down?

Whitehead at that point was a 9 year NFL vet - he was brought in to help establish the culture and obviously the rest of the NFL thought he could still play.

There was nothing lackluster about our results last year. Rivera and Hurney left this roster in a mess. I was very annoyed we didn't beat Denver, but 5 wins was a very credible return.

Ideally, me too. But then what was the point of drafting Christensen and then focusing on him playing RT? A 3rd round pick is a steep price to pay for a guy you plan on just being a backup.

A solid swing tackle who can provide depth at guard too would actually be a great outcome for a 3rd round pick. Not many 3rd round picks actually stick in the league that long.

He also said he expects these joint practices to be “physical run heavy opposed to last week that was a lot of 3rd and pass situations”

wouldn’t expect the starters to get too much run this weeks game either

Well the Panthers "media" made it seem like they wanted him as an OG. So, I don't know what to think about the situation.

Sorry, I wouldn't be happy spending a 3rd on a guy penciled in as a long-term backup at a position that doesn't rotate. 3rd rounders should be guys you envision on developing into a guy who will at least compete to start.

Well he basically has next to no NFL experience. I think these interactions help this staff learn, as well.

Remember that Rivera had to dig into some of his coaching mentors and he had tons of NFL experience.

I have no doubt it will help him and his green staff learn how to do things.

but that is part of the point.  This staff is on over their head at the moment.  Saw and heard parts of that last year. A fact people have repeatedly denied to suit other arguments when things are pointed out and criticized.

so we should be able to collectively  acknowledge they have a lot to learn about running a NFL team. Which people have struggled with

He was the Head Coach of TWO College programmes for SEVEN years. Where is this 'green' nonsense coming from?

“In over their head” is complete nonsense. Trying to gain insights from established and successful head coaches is a very smart thing to do. Being open to potentially different ways of doing things if they show to be better is great.

Sounds like you are looking for an arrogant insecure coach who does things his way or the highway. If that is true you will be disappointed with our HC.

Myself I think it is great that he shows  a willingness to try new things to gain an edge.

But again, we might just have a different ideal coach, and that’s ok.

NFL isn’t small time college football.   That is where the green is coming from.

see Teddy’s comments where people got outraged for him just pointing something out.

and this conversation spawned out of a questionable strategy about building the OL.  The bad plan noted a couple post ago

and NFL teams all have different personnel, strengths and weaknesses…..and for two consecutive weeks of camp he has deferred to other teams to script his practice time to suit their preference.     Different teams need different things from practice.

and I am fine with a green coach that has to learn… if we can talk about it

Listen, you definitely aren't wrong about them needing to adjust to the NFL. I think outside of the most delusional of our fanbase, we mostly all accept that to a certain degree. However, in their defense, we did get pitched that this was a long rebuild. The owner warned the fans about that. I do think "over their heads" is a bit strong. I think they are still navigating their learning curve.

Let me put it this way, was last season not a genuine surprise with how well we performed? I was fully ready to see a 0-4 win team that was getting blasted off the field almost every week. That didn't happen. Despite having probably the least talented overall roster in the NFL, we were competitive in almost every game. In my mind, that puts us a bit ahead of schedule.

So, while we are critical of them(I know I definitely am) we also need to accept that they are still kind of figuring everything out too. I am sure after hearing Grier's comments this week and seeing the structure of our training camp, Teddy's comments about the staff not really practicing situational stuff last season was probably true(also note that we didn't have normal circumstances last offseason). But, guess what we practiced a lot this offseason, situational football. At the bare minimum, that has to show some level of learning and change.

Do I ultimately think this is the staff to stabilize this franchise? I don't know. I think the "culture" aspect is underrated by fans and I think they seem to be doing a good job of building that for us. So, as much as I will bitch about the staff, I am actually hopeful that these are the guys. It's just after 3 straight losing seasons(likely to stretch to 4 this year) and only 7 total winning seasons....I am going to be a bit grumpy about having to suffer through more bad to mediocre results.
