Hoskins and Nixon

Hoskins was a beast in the 2nd half but I know I saw him on the field in the 1st half.

I saw him blow up his opponent a couple of times in the 2nd half but really didn't notice much in the first half.

Anyone have their takes on him in the 1st half?

I saw Nixon in there but really didn't hear his name too often.  He was one I thought might be a steal.

Thoughts?

Hoskins impressed for sure. Nixon was a bit non-existent.

Will be interesting seeing those two + Christian Miller battle for a roster spot. Was impressed by Hoskins consistently getting penetration into the backfield.

I was watching Hoskins expecting him to be a jag. It looks like Fitt and our scouting department knew what they were doing when they picked him.

Nixon played against the 2's and Hoskins the 3's. I'd love to see them flip that next week to see if Hoskins still has the same success. I do have Hoskins sneaking onto the 53 man roster unless we pick up a cast-off from another team somewhere.

Roster Stock Report: Pre-season week 1 - The4ManRush
Hoskins was the highest riser on Sunday.

He successfully beat his blocker when in a 1-on-1 situation consistently. To adjust for this, the Colts tried to double team him and get him off the spot, and Hoskins did not give up much ground.

He defeated block attempts with his hands and footwork, which other interior d-linemen did not display in Sunday’s game. Hoskins should shoot up the depth chart if he can carry this momentum.

I want to point out that Hoskins played early in the 1st quarter & had the same success he had later on in the game. I have watched every defensive snap & he beat his 1o1 consistently and even pushed his double team back. he was both powerful & quick. unless this was a fluke performance, he can be a real steal. I was even surprised, he played on the edge and had a nice bullrush, pushing his man into the QB laps. Very promising 1st game.

Nixon played early and was fairly effective. Nothing flashy, but he wasn't pushed around & got some penetrations.

The big disappointment was Bravyion Roy. He was pushed around on every play. while he was double teamed at the beginning of the game, the colts understood quickly he was no threat and put 1 guy on him while doubling Nixon. They were right. He got consistently handled by 1 man all game long.

If this continues, I wouldn't be surprised if he is moved to PS. Although he is a Rhule guy, he was a 6th round guy last year on a pretty bad team.

I think big snack has a good chance to stick around. Heard he was having a good camp & yesterday confirmed it.

I think Bravyion may be in trouble based on yesterday performance. I'll be really interested to see where he ranks after this game in the depth chart. He couldn't get off any blocks with his short arms. I think it may be in the same situation as Troy Pride. They both played a lot last year because of lack of talent on the team, but now with the talent we have, I don't know if they will have a spot anymore.

I may be overreacting since it was literary one pre-season game, so we will see.

Big snack and Nixon are DTs though aren't they? Unless christian Miller gained 50pounds he is still a DE/OLB pass rushing specialist isn't he?

Not being a smarty pants, I'm just wondering if I am wrong because I guess Miller could gain 40+ pounds of muscle since he last played in 2019. I haven't heard anything about him this year.

Yea, they're DTs vs. Miller being a DE, but I expect the team to carry only 9 - 10 DL guys specifically like they did last season.

Burns, Brown, Jones, Fox, YGM, Haynes, and Roy make up 7 of those 9 - 10 positions. Between Hoskins, Nixon, and Miller there could only be 2 of those left. 1 if they decide to look at Reddick as a DE rather than an LB (for depth chart purposes).

Miller lined up almost exclusively at DE last night. He might have been OLB in a 3-4 look but I didn't see him then.

I watched Nixon twice I think--double teamed both times

He seemed a little slow on the couple of stunts that I saw him attempt. As soon as I get the freedom, you had better believe I'm re-watching his snaps to look for flashes.

Would love to see more snaps for Hoskins, Miller, and him.

Miller is super raw. He had no rush plan for the most part. with the depth we have, I don't see him stick around.

The surprising thing about Hoskins, he played some DE and was effective with his bullrush. I didn't expect that. It shows how mobile he is for his size, when they put him at DE. Based on the words in camp and his game on Sunday, Miller is not a threat to him.
