There was one sack, 0 interceptions and 0 QB fumbles in our 1st preseason game.

I was pleasantly surprised with most of the game honestly.  First preseason games usually feel much uglier to me.  The offensive in the redzone and the offense on third down were the two biggest negatives that were something we struggled with last season.   I'm excited though, all the young guys we have been hyping up and hoping to see play well since the draft and all through camp pretty much played solid at worst and stood out at best.

The backups to our offensive line did NOT get our QB killed as some predicted.   You know who you are.

They are both alive and well, last I checked.  PJ wasn't sacked at all and Grier was sacked once for 2 yards.  Neither turned the ball over AT ALL.   No ints and no fumbles were caused because the offensive line failed to do its job.  Was it perfect?  No.  Was it the horror show that some predicted...NO, far from it.  I don't have the pressure numbers, if anyone has them, I'd love to see, but from watching the game, I'd be more worried about their backup offensive line than ours.

This doesn't mean our offensive line is great, but I think its ok to say the offensive line was not trash yesterday.

Grier handed the ball off almost the entire second half or attempted a few short passes.  The last pass attempt, the only one with any significant distance, was a pressure.  PJ had to run out of pressures several times.  The OL penalties were embarrassing.  Scott even got yanked.  Stats don't lie, but they don't tell the entire story either.

I'm not saying the OL was awesome. They were decent.  I'd love for he full pressure numbers, if you know where go get them.  I

The predictions around here were that the QB would get "killed", and that they were backups to TRASH.

Is that how you would describe yesterday?

It was better than I anticipated but it was definitely sloppy with penalties and PJ's mobility saved the offense on more than one occasion. There are some things to like moving forward but at the end of the day these were backups playing backups and Carolina will undoubtedly be seeking any upgrades to their oline depth that they can find once cuts begin.

I'm fine with that.  Its preseason.  But it just seems every time he takes the field, there's a new excuse.  I hope if he sucks next week, that we cut the cord.

I mean he hit Ishmael Hyman in the hands on third down and he dropped the pass, that would've extended one drive. Then a 3rd and 2 became 3rd and 17 because of the OL, 3rd and 2 definitely would've been easier to convert. Just inserting a bit of logic into the discussion.

They survived without looking horrible, penalties aside.  I seriously doubt we we sitting on a one score lead by running the ball, that was a function of not letting Grier getting pummeled.

Honestly, if Darnold goes down, I am on the phone to P. Rivers and see if he wants a curtain call.  He recently said he would consider the option.

If I recall the story correctly, Rivers said he would consider it for a contender. I certainly hope we're in a contending positon if we need to call him.

Which pass attempt was a pressure?  I'm not saying it wasn't, but which one are you referring to?

PJ sometimes fled a clean pocket that was still holding.

I'm not saying our O line was awesome, but the way people talk around here and  considering we sacked, hit, and FF  on the Colts who are considered to have a good line, I think our line was decent yesterday.   It certainly deserves some kudos from people calling them trash.

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
