As I've said, there are plenty of arguments for both sides.  I don't judge either way.  I trust natural antibodies over any vaccines that have been rushed onto the market.

not that this is going to change your mind and this may have changed with the delta but antibodies from OG COVID slow return to normal levels and only last for maybe 3 months. you can certainly get sick again, I have personally seen it.

Many virologists and epidemiologists predicted that this thing would become endemic as soon as it became obvious that this was going to become a global pandemic. Sure looks like that will be the case. It'll take years to get the world anywhere close to herd immunity via vaccination and while COVID doesn't mutate anywhere near as rapidly as the flu, it probably still mutates quickly enough to stay a step ahead of the vaccinations to avoid being completely eradicated.

I read an article a couple weeks ago that said in Russia they found the virus used an immunosuppressed patient's body as a "gym to make itself fitter," and it mutated 40 times in her.  She apparently had it for 11 straight months before she recovered.  But, in that time, they said the virus even mutated in her body to hide itself from t-cells and antibodies and such, which the researchers found fascinating bc why would the virus disguise itself from something she didn't even have.  Fascinating article.

I remember early on, I had hope that it would only last a year or so, as I had read a virologist/epidemiologist had said at the beginning of it that they believed the virus would likely burn itself out by the time a vaccine was even available.  I also read the theories that, as you mentioned, the virus would go the way of the Spanish Flu or Hong Kong Flu...  they were super deadly initially, but over time evolved and just became endemic and part of our seasonal flu we still have to this day which are a lot less lethal.  I also remember you had said a friend of yours from John Hopkins (IIRC) said they thought the virus, as all usually do, eventually mutate to less deadly versions because it ensures their survivability - which gave me hope that it would last long.

And yet, here we are, almost 2 full years into this, and I'm reading articles now about how the delta and lambda variants have patients much younger and healthier in the hospital than the original strains...  and it doesn't appear to be slowing down.  My wife's facility just went on lockdown again because they've had another outbreak...  first time since the original wave.  It's just so depressing and disappointing.  And people still out here trying to make a political statement by not taking the simplest of precautions, meanwhile, they're just giving the virus all of the tools it needs to mutate and become that much worse.

Friend of mine is head ICU nurse at a hospital out here in PNW and he has more vaccinated than non in ICU. He said people are acting like the vaccine is a free pass but this delta variant is some scary poo and doesn't give a damn if youre vaccinated or not.

While true these variants are causing much more breakthrough infections, they still protect from the worst of the virus.  I did read a research paper recently that said they believe the Pfizer is only 40+% effective against the delta variant, and they think the lambda is resistant to all vaccines, they still believe it protects from the damage the virus can cause.  But, who knows?  The longer this goes on and people don't protect themselves or their fellow human beings, they may render the vaccines useless altogether.

Meanwhile, the UK is projecting better than it has at any point during the pandemic.  Even with the delta variant.  Why?  Because they had like a 70% vaccine rate at the outset of the delta outbreak.

Gotta love America.

Sorry to hear about this and wish you a speedy recovery.

I hate to sound pessimistic, but after eighteen months of dealing with this, I just don't think we're going to beat this thing. We're going to have to learn how to live with it someway, somehow.

(Note: I am fully vaccinated).

It’s never going away because it has animal reserves.  Just like the flu, and just like a cold.  We will be able to live with it much better once the media and the government ramp down the fear porn a tad.

Yeah, there's some indication that long haul COVID patients could be variant factories which makes sense I guess. The virus is obviously having to stay a step ahead of their immune systems.

Yup.  I have always believed in and relied on the natural antibodies approach, until this virus.  Everything I have read says they found the natural antibodies fade much quicker, but the vaccine antibodies (especially combined with natural infection antibodies) provide the best, most long-term protection.

Which one does not effect your DNA? Is there a study you can provide which shows one that for sure effects your DNA?

I was worried about the same thing when these vaccines came out.  But these points got me over that concern:

1) these vaccines only introduce messenger RNA, it never penetrates the nucleus of your cells that contain DNA, so it has nothing to do with your DNA.  And your body quickly sheds the mRNA after it does it's thing.

2) At a q&a when they were introducing the vaccines at the medical facility my wife works at, she posed this question about hearing how the vaccine changes your DNA to the doctor (which we had discussed separately before), and the doctor there said that if you get the virus itself, THAT changes your DNA.

His point was more that people think the vaccine is making them invincible and they're not.

So tired of seeing several idiot "friends" from HS beat their drum of how they don't wear a mask and don't make their kids wear masks, and they're not getting vaccinated bc it infringes on their red-blooded American rights and they ain't getting microchipped!  No idiot, but what it is infringing on is everyone else's, to live a healthy life and our desire to end the pandemic.

I just don't get it.  This pandemic has been absolutely eye-opening.  I knew people were selfish, but this has really demonstrated just how selfish people are.  If only some smooth-brained idiot hadn't politicized it, let people around him die from it, then got the world's best medical care that the American public could foot the bill for, and then quietly received the vaccine himself before leaving office despite all the wreckage he left behind.

Anyway, this whole thing has shown who you can really trust to protect people they don't even know by doing the smallest of gestures.  It's ridiculous.

Everyone stay safe and prayers for a quick recovery for your children, Jeremy.  And I think after 90 days once they're virus free, any kids 12+ (last i checked) can receive the vaccine.

And that idiot was replaced by another idiot.     That's Politics, diddy.

Yeah, I get that, but we're at this point bc of the unvaccinated people who took ZERO precautions.  And vaccinated people were told they could go maskless, which then opened them up to the breakthrough infections.  I don't care, vaccine or not, at minimum the masks should be worn and physical distance maintained until we got this thing under control.  But, people are so selfish, they can't be inconvenienced at the slightest even if it means doing their part to end a pandemic that puts others in danger, if not themselves.

Sounds to me that many of the Huddler's don't believe in natural antibodies.  Sorry if it offends you that I do.

Several people on here have brought rebuttals to your statements with researched articles from reputable sources, stating that you are, in fact, incorrect. No one is "offended" by your being wrong. They're merely correcting you. I swear some people love to claim that they're "offending" everyone when the truth is that in this instance, you're just being called out on your nonsense.

Yeah, most of them are,, but my point being, the virus and how it's handled shouldn't be politicized.  It should be cut and dry...  or should have been.  And if it would have been handled as such, we would already be on the other side of this thing.

    • They gave him franchise QB money. Sorry but if you don't earn it you can be embarrassed.   He's rich he can take it. Stop feeling sorry for people who can't live up to their contract. This isn't a sport to be soft. Daniels deserves to give back some of that money he stole if you ask me.
    • And it was coming off of a bye week. Perhaps he should vacation a bit in Germany in the off season, something certainly seemed to help him there.  No, really... He showed maturation and the possibility that he's turning a corner. That wasn't the NY Giants out there, but the back to back Super Bowl champions with the #3 defense in the league, with them coming off of a prime time loss. And that was a 9-1 team we just played literally down to the last second. Bryce played so well that maybe, maybe he wins over some nay-sayers. It's still early, though, but what a nice breath of fresh air that was. You can win quite a few games if that is your normal performance. It is obvious that we are still on the learning curve, though. But that was one helluva test he just took. Some of these QBs coming out of college just don't have a lot of games under their belts, especially in top end programs. They are perhaps just a year to two years behind center in games that matter before they move up. It can take them some time to hit their stride. We can still be cautious about our future and still celebrate a great game by the kid, though, and we should. He earned the laurels today, or had before they were snatched away at the last second.
