2020 and 2021 Draft Picks to the PS

Looking at the most recent depth chart (taken with a grain of salt)

I can see possibly four or five of those picks ending up on the PS.

Pride, STO from 2020 and Hoskins, Fletcher and Smith from 2021.

Our depth at WR is crazy and it's possible the Smith would be the odd man out.  Probably not just because he probably wouldn't last long but POSSIBLE

Fletcher if they decide to keep JJ one more season

Hoskins as our depth at DT is pretty solid

STO and Pride could go (if eligible)

Question is, who if any doesn't last on the PS and is picked up by someone else.   IMO Pride and Smith are probably the most in danger.

Unless JJ just absolutely abolishes Fletch in practice, then JJ needs to move on, and Fletch needs to remain on the 53.  If it's close, go with the cheaper, younger, longer signed player that you just drafted.

Reminds me of the Butker situation.

Unfortunately, this.

I feel like the conversation with JJ should have already happened.  Now it is just awkward.  No hard feelings JJ, we appreciate all you have done, but it is time.

This.

Plus, even with the 1 year extension, it costs us zero $$ to cut him.

Almost makes me think that we have had a conversation with him and he has agreed to stick around just incase we couldn't get a quality LS, or if Fletch just simply couldn't play, that he would stay one more year.

I think he knows his time is likely done, unless Fletch fails to show anything.

OK, so this probably warrants it's own thread, but in order to answer your question, I had to figure out who was PS bound, so I made my way-too-early depth chart. The only real threat of being poached is Bayless. Maybe Rodney Smith, but decent, not quite good enough, RB's are a dime a dozen. As you can see, I have Shi and Pride making the team.

Obviously, there will be cast offs from other teams that can churn the bottom of our roster. For example, we still need a return specialist and I could definitely see us picking up a vet DT or another LB.

That looks good but Taylor is making the team and wouldn't clear waivers anyways.

If Pride and Fletcher are on the PS, they will both be picked up in a second. I don’t see why you want to waste a 6th rounder on a long snapper if you didn’t plan on him being the starter.

Plans don't always work out.  I would hypothetically much rather them address the situation than just go with him because of sunk cost.

    • I'm still not touching Hunter He again said the other day that he plans on playing both sides of the ball in the NFL.  If he is allowed to do that, he won't be as good on either side as his potential and he's going to have serious injury issues and have a short career.  If he's not allowed to do it, I think he's going to become a problem when the team isn't winning as he's going to feel him not being used on both sides of the ball is why. He's being coddled in that environment with Deion and I think it's doing a disservice to him to prepare him for life in the NFL where your coach isn't a 2nd father to you, to where you can just walk into his locker room and steal his shoes like Hunter does to Deion.
    • He’s a tad behind them. Around 15ish of 32 starters in the league. He’s well ahead of a lot of guys. Tua, Bryce, Cousins (present), Rodgers (current), Devito/Jones, Minshew, Russ (current), Watson, Smith, Carr, T Laws deep ball is weak as poo IMO, there’s plenty. And it’s not like everyone is ripping 60+ers. The key component is if you can rip and maintain velocity of the 30-40 yarders which he does super well. Legit every report out there from Brugler to PFF to PFN document him as good/above average arm strength.  Eye test tells me it’s pretty much that as well, slightly above average.
    • 6-10 carries for  35-45 yds and 3-5 catches for 15-25 would be great.
