By "still in the hunt" they mean teams that are on the bubble, hence the choices (Cowboys, Redskins, Eagles, Bears, Packers). The Panthers aren't listed for the same reason that the Bucs, Giants and Cardinals aren't, because they're expected to make the playoffs.

As for the fans voting for the Cowboys, I'm not that big on fan polls as a good indicator of what realistically might happen. A load of those fans probably haven't taken the time to peruse the remaining schedules of the teams listed. Had they done so, you might see a different result.
