Scott and Erving swing too.  Really  BC  played left in college and is practicing RT now, so he swings too.   So all 4 tackles can play either side in a pinch.

I don't think that is an accident.

Everyone keeps over thinking this  versatility deal.

On game day you usually only have 8 OL active, you don’t have a backup for each spot, because of this every team has a multitude of players that can play multiple positions on the line.

All that matters is if LT1 gets hurt who fills in? Who fills in if RT2  gets hurt?  More times than not it is some combination of three guys, not 4 like some fans think.

Yes.  I also think the question becomes, if LT1 doesn't dress, we have to start with LT2 and he gets hurt, what do we do?   Its seems unlikely to have 2 go down in a game, but not as unlikely to have to start LT2 and he goes down.  If LT3 has never taken reps there, oops.

We spent half the season starting various LT2's last year and it looks like we're headed in that direction again.

Pat Meyer knows what he is going.  He did more with less last year that I thought possible.

I'm not gonna lie...  I'm not as down on our OL as many are.  I don't think they'll be worldbeaters by any means, but I think the talent level is as high as it's been in years.  That being said, I'm growing concerned with how it is being handled.  The non-committal approach to LT, and having had Moton taken snaps over there throughout camp, even when everyone was healthy, then having him at RT, then back at LT, then shuffling other guys around like Elflein and Tecklenberg...  it's kind of like the old cliche about QBs - if you have two, then you have none.

It seems like they're trying to come up with contingency plans if someone gets hurt or what have you, when our biggest issue is having an actual solidified starting 5.

Hard to do that when players get dinged up. In training camp and preseason,  ya want them to stay healthy, versus during the season,  there will be some playing through injuries.

That's not what holds back solidifying a starting line. That is due to lack of padded practices.  Thank you CBA.

That makes a lot of sense. If you dig a little deeper, you could say the only players who actually need padded practices, are the two lines. They absolutely need padded practices.

Of course there are exceptions. Tackling drills, which I'm not even sure they do those anymore. So very little need for other positions to wear them.

    • This is factually incorrect. He was a two time Pro Bowler with the Rams and in fact statistically he was better with the Rams in his best season there than he has been with the Lions(could change with this season). Some of his per game stats have creeped into being marginally better with the Lions but there have not been dramatic differences in his play, actually. The biggest reason that McVay and he ended up splitting was McVay didn't think he could win a title with Goff. TBH.....so far he was 100% correct. Stafford almost immediately won them a SB and Goff in a historic run was about 70% of the reason the Lions faltered in the NFC championship game. He missed critical throws all over the first half and throughout the second half that he normally wouldn't. He choked. So, until Goff actually does win a SB...McVay has been right.
    • they have the best defense they've had in a long time...probably the best in the reid/mahommes era.  but i think they are probably the most beatable they've been in a while as well. record doesn't exactly bear that out, but they just don't look as strong on offense as they usually do. lots of reasons for that, like trying to build chemistry with newer receivers, but right now they just aren't as frightening as they typically are. i mean they'll probably win tomorrow, but i don't see them as the strongest team in the AFC right now.
    • He will likely remain unsigned the remainder of this season(barring someone being in a pure QB panic AND making poor decisions) largely due to the cost. I do think he will get multiple offers to be a backup QB and perhaps a couple to potentially start this offseason.  I will continue to beat the same horse over and over.....he should go to a successful team with an established starter. If I were him, go to somewhere like SF, LAR, etc. Somewhere with a successful QB coach and brilliant offensive mind and ALSO a set situation at QB. Ride the pine and adjust for a year or two. Chill and be around better culture. I would suggest the same for Bryce but he will be limited to wherever we can trade him.
