Shades of John Forslund? Michael Smith leaving the Hurricanes.

Not that Michael Smith has the gravitas, or is in the same conversation as John Forslund, but you have to raise an eyebrow after the offseason we've experienced so far. Could be something, could be nothing.

They put a premium on paying certain positions on the ice, so I'm guessing off the ice its the same.

Ya I guessed he was out when he barely said anything over draft. I’m not sure this is a forceout. Honestly, it really does sound if you read his tweets for the past half year(well over now) that he was probably moving on. Ya maybe Tom didn’t want to meet his price tag, but honestly if he’s staying in Raleigh he’s getting paid by a paper/network and it’s hard to believe they would pay him much cushier.

Taken at face value, he's been hired elsewhere in Raleigh, and it's not in the sports industry.

Can't read too much into it and we'll never be sure if it was the Canes or NHL, who maintains a stranglehold on team websites and really limits content.
