Captain's Pass Interference Penalties

I love them. Usually, pass interference calls are a negative and a sign of poor positioning in coverage. But, I just wanted to bring this up b/c I don't know if anyone else has noticed that all of Capt's penalties have been less than 10 yards IIRC.

I think he's drawn one every game except yesterday... The reason I like them is b/c he has usually drawn them against big receivers. I could be wrong, but one that sticks out was against Roy Williams in the Cowboys game. I think he did it against the Fitzgerald in the Cards game, and possibly Jenkins vs ATL the first game...

To me, it really shows his intelligence. He's sending those guys a message when he does it. I remember one vividly... The WR was trying to run a slant route and tried to cut inside on him. Capt was wrestling him the whole way on the press, when the WR tried to box him out and the pass was coming, Capt jumped all over his back and did everything he could to make sure the pass was never caught.

Like I said, I just love it b/c I think it sends a message. He's scrappy. I believe our opponents have picked up a first down or two on the calls, but the reason they have been a positive IMO, is b/c he ensures by doing it that they won't get a bigger play than 5 yards or so. Anyone else see the method to his madness?

Gamble pass interference call was sooooooooooooooooo wack

He jammed within 5 yards and Roddy lost his footing and fell, and he got the call

I hate atl

That was a really bad call. Another sissy ass call I am really starting to hate is that hit to the knees of a QB call. Brayton got slapped with it yesterday and I've seen it happen in other games around the NFL. Possibly the stupidest penalty in the NFL.

I saw this tendency back in training camp and predicted that he would have trouble avoiding pass interference penalties. Unlike some others I don't think it is a sign of intelligence nor something we need to be excited about. I will agree that I like his willingness to be aggressive and compete for the ball. But his technique is too unrefined and obvious. He lines up often 3 or 4 yards off the line and engages the receiver at the 5-10 yard mark. He often comes over the top of the receiver and mugs him with poor timing and technique. Other times to forgets to look back for the ball to at least appear to be going for the ball.

Don't get me wrong, I think he has a future here and I prefer his physical style to the old "stay back and shadow the receiver" from a distance approach. But he obviously plays like a rookie and his penalties are too obvious to not call.

With time he wil learn to bump more off the line and stay with the receiver while timing his moves to arrive with the ball instead of mugging him the whole time. He will learn to read the receiver and quarterback and anticipate where the throw is going. And will time he will make more use of gamefilm to study his opponent in order to understand what is going to happen based on the formation, down and distance.

What second rounder? Martin who is starting at free safety? He shares time with another 7th rounder -CJ WIlson. He will play because he is aggressive but anyone can see he needs work and will get better with time. Reminds me of Ricky Manning, Jr.

tI see better improvement and more focus so far out of Capt thanI did out of Manning Jr.

Being of a relatively small stature, Manning's best attribute was his aggressiveness. When the NFL began to emphasize the 5-yard no contact rule in '04, Manning wasn't able to play receivers to his strength. Munnerlyn is a bigger guy and doesn't have to be as physical as Manning did to be effective.

Or perhaps it had something to do with a training camp injury to Martin that limited his exposure to the coaching staff...
