That's too bad about Fields. Most of this board are hoping he can prove Rhule, and Fitz wrong. I'm sure he will get better? Right?

I heard Rapport on FS1 this morning. Fields is doing well just to get the play calls out. Dalton gets them out and then tells everyone in the huddle what there job is. It took Mahomes almost a full season behind Alex Smith to get acclimated to that offense. I wouldn't draw any huge conclusions on Fields, Jones, Lawrence, Lance, or Wilson based upon this season, let alone before they even take their first preseason snap (though Jones has taken snaps now). Even a seemingly successful rookie campaign would need to be backed up by an equally strong sophomore year.

When it comes to evaluations, you're gonna get some right, and get some wrong. Past performance is no guarantee of future results.

Excuses for Fields. Wow, who'd a thunk it. Folks will give Fieldsv a pass, but rip into Sam? What is wrong with this picture?

Fields isn't a fourth year pro. As of now most are less concerned about Sam and more about the line in front of him.

The ones that have the stuff will make it anyway.

Yup, if you can play, you can play.

However, that does not explain how, after the meltdown on here over one bad PRACTICE. We get one tweet about Fieldsy, and he gets excuses?

It just feels...off.

To be fair to them, Sam is going into his 4th season, Fields is just a rookie.

Plus, the QB position will always have it’s fanboys.  In that, guys are kinda like pubescent girls.

*This forum is impressive that it has few fans I describe above, just directed at the weirdos that feel compelled to go to another team site, Twitter or Facebook to offer stupid takes on QBs on other teams….normally mental giants with the profound “he sucks”, or commenting on the looks of opposing QB.  Sh*t like that.

If he’s not you QB, why do you care?

I do have to wonder how many Huddlerz will be bringing up stuff about Fields? And for how long?

I get it. We passed on Fields, and those that wanted him were upset. But it's Pre Season now. Let's move on to our own team.

Yeah, I'm not doing this. I'm not going to get into some lame discussion about a QB who is not even on my team. Sorry.

You are being snippy about it but nobody forced you into this thread you quoted someone about Fields and initiated an interaction. Fans of different football teams discuss other players their team passed over in the draft all the time Panthers fans included this isn't some new phenomenon. You are going to have to put your big boy pants on and accept not everyone here is going to be a drone and repeating the same take.

    • If he tries to do that I have a feeling the league is gonna tell him to butt out.
    • I think you are at a major advantage if you have the ability to run the football as a quarterback. It can mask a lot of issues. Much like RG3, or Anthony Richardson, immediate impact is a lot easier with a running QB. Anthony Richardson already appears to be a bust, despite him turning some heads early last year. Vince Young was a ROY. I do think Jayden is a lot better than a lot of those guys, but I think he's got a fair amount of development to do as well.  Stroud looks a lot better than Bryce, I won't dispute that, but he's taken a very big step back this year off of last year. Houston has a myriad of issues on the offensive side of the ball.  This is just a trend we seem to be seeing everywhere. Very few QB's are pro ready anymore, and just when we are ready to give up on a guy, he does the thing where he becomes competent, (not necessarily good). Sam Bradford, Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, Geno Smith, Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, and so on and so forth. The list of evidence is enormous. But to your point, the highest miss rate of any position in football is quarterback. The vast majority of them do not pan out. More than likely, that is the case here.
