The worst with a clean pocket, the worst in the red zone…

Yeah it’s the David Carr Effect. If you are getting hit on 75% of your throws you get happy feet and rush passes during the 25% you are protected. They begin to expect pressure even when it’s not there, because more times than not it is. It happens with most QBs except it’s during the span of a game vs the whole season. How do you beat Tom Brady? Get pressure on him, get him off rhythm and even his passes from a “clean pocket” will be off.

His first camp?? The man been in the league for 3 years already. Blame the Jets all you want, like we’re some first class organization that has a history of building around QBs LOL.

Don’t be mad at me ability to see the storm before the rain hits my head.

His 4th camp....

His 1st with us, a lot of the same excuses / hype were made for T2G, I'm waiting to see. However; I was 100% on board with Fields, talent / value of the rookie contract with Sam AT THAT TIME only on a 1yr / 4M deal.

I would have let them battle it out in camp, and used the money to sign a corner this off-season or next. I'd have been ok going after a Peterson, Sam doesn't strike me as a get us to the playoffs talent, and I don't see anything in his game that could be considered elite -- at least with guys like Cam (early), Lamarr, Russel, Kyler, and even Josh Allen is they possess upper tier athleticism so even if you say they process slower:

1) You have to account for them in the run game, short yardage / redzone

2) Limits man coverage as the DBs eyes are off the QB

3) Makes the HB better

Now if you want to throw in the OSU QB stigma, USC HAS THAT SAME STIGMA (Leinart, Sanchez, JDB, Barkley, etc.)

It’s funny how some people point to stats like this….let’s forget the fact that he was destroyed every other play, but do you not think that the talent around him factors in to his red zone and “clean pocket” stats? If he has little talent at WR that does not gets separation along with terrible play calls what do you think the results will be? Some defended Cam to the death last year because of a lack of talent around him (cough cough) but will point at stats like this as to why our QB is trash.

Darnold has the ability to turn things around here. He’s 24 and we have seen QBs have a complete turnaround with life after Gase. If he does not work out,  it’s not like we are tied down for 5 years and will be crippled with guaranteed money. It’s a low risk high reward move we have made and I’m not sure what is so had to understand about that

    • Easily. To be able to plug in a backup LT without much drop off from your starter? That could mean the difference between playoffs or sitting at home in January. Good/serviceable smart young and healthy LTs that won’t lose you a ball game at reasonable $$ don’t just come along every day. Picture next year… the team is scrappy and competitive, 4 and 3 record, second place in the South. Morale is good. devastating run game that Let’s our marginal defense get plenty of rest. We play the Bucs and win, going to 5 and 3, but we lose Ickey to a high ankle sprain. Atl loses that week and are now at 5 and 3 as well. There is no Ickey and no BC because we let him go… and we go in to Atl the next week for a battle of first in the south. Week after that is the Jets…. Now they lose both by 10 and 3, respectively, and fall to 5 and 5 going in to their bye week. Atl is at 7 and 3. Out of typical Panthers desperation, they try to rush Ickey back in to the lineup with a saints game coming up…  Back to good old Panthers football, always playing catchup. Another season at .500 and the fans sadly rejoice in mediocrity, when playoffs were in reach. This team always overestimates its ability to pick up quality o line depth in the draft or FA and it always blows up in their faces. Like Chuba, I see him as being part of the core that Dan is trying to build. Work on his contract now and see if we can come out with something mutually beneficial. I’d consider 3 yrs at $25m to be very fair.
    • it would be great to have "double trouble" again, I even had a T- shirt for Williams and Stewart and the double trouble logo, was a great time to be Panthers fan. We shall see...
    • Sounds like a plan. Those are the teams we should be mimicking! lol
