Hopefully Darnold will work out really well and this won't be an issue for us at all. If Arnold doesn't work out, we're probably positioned for another high draft pick.

I just don't see Watson coming into the situation here, not  just for the two reasons above, but also because of fan fallout and the potential for a repeat offender situation. 

Let some other team roll those dice.

If he has to settle in court for this issue...no offense what else does he have hiding in the closet that could be damaging to the franchise publicly, financially and with draft capital I like what we are doing in the front office but not on this one.  We got Darnold and I think he is going to surprise some people this year.

Honestly don’t think I could root for the team if we got him and it’d be my first time ever feeling that way. I say this as someone who was ready to sell the farm to grab him before everything came out.

When you see a rumor that names multiple teams it is a dead giveaway it started from Watson's camp or the Texan's camp so not sure there is much new here.

If anyone else had started this thread it would be a dumpster fire right now.  The fact that you started it is giving me real pause. 

Trading for Watson, in the current climate is a desperate move.  Earlier in the offseason it made total sense, but I think with the players we have we are far from desperate.  When the first charges came out it was still hard to let go of the idea of a talent like Watson playing for the Panthers.

Of course, if Darnold stinks up the joint all bets are off.  But I don't see any moves by the Panthers until or especially even if he does and the season is well underway.

Think about it---we are sitting in pretty good shape.

1. Darnold is on a rookie deal for now.  If he plays well, we lock him up and pass on Watson.  If he does not, we dodge that bullet and make the move for Watson.

2.  Our future cap figure is pretty low (2022...)

3. Watson is not my favorite option; I would rather see Darnold play well and not have to take on a player with baggage.  That could divide the fan base to a degree.  It does not matter if you or I are OK with Watson; this is a business and the QB is the brand.  However, talent suggests he gets $40m per and someone will pay it.

Everything depends on Watson's price. What transpires has to work itself out and is to be determined. I do think we'll be in on every deal, until we're not.

That's the thing, any trade would be months away after this situation is sorted out and he serves out his suspension while on the Texans' roster. We will have a pretty good idea of what we have (or don't have) in Darnold by that time. By that time, we very well could be desperate. Again.
