Could Taylor Moton become the Panthers' left tackle permanently?

Until someone posted it here, I had forgot that Moton has done a brief stint at LT in 2018.  I was curious how he did.

Could Taylor Moton become the Panthers left tackle permanently? (247sports.com)

"second year player Taylor Moton earned the nod to play left tackle for the Panthers, moving over from the right side where he had played the first two games of the preseason at a high level. The results were outstanding: Moton's play at left tackle was the highlight of a Panthers offensive line performance that allowed zero sacks, allowed only a single pressure on Cam Newton, and helped the running backs run for 99 total yards. Pro Football Focus gave Moton a grade of 74.5 for his performance, the fourth highest on the team in Friday night's preseason victory.  On his very best snaps, Taylor Moton almost looked like Jonathan Ogden"

Now its dejvu all over again:

Will the Carolina Panthers Move Taylor Moton to Left Tackle? - Sports Illustrated Carolina Panthers News, Analysis and More

"When asked what would cause the Panthers to move him over to left tackle, Rhule responded: 'If he's the best available.'  "

Wow so the coaching staff is doing what the huddle suggested for the past three years after numerous failed (stupid) signings, injuries,  and a bust second round pick?

Another one to mark in the books….lol

Even if Moton is average at best as an LT, he might be the best available this year.

Erving does not play well injured, and he already couldn't participate in OTAs.

They said BC at RT....so Moton at LT and BC at RT seems plausible.

Guess we'll find out at camp.

It's why I just laugh at the poster here who only posts to tell people how dumb they are for having an opinion and that the coaches know infinitely more than us so we should just trust their judgements and not discuss anything else.

very interesting clause in Ramzcks contract...

"One component of Ramczk’s deal generates intrigue about New Orleans’ future at the tackle position. The contract includes a $1MM bonus should Ramczyk be named a first- or second-team All-Pro at left tackle, Yates tweets. If Ramczyk earns this bonus, his salary balloons by $1MM in each subsequent year."

Would love to see that as part of our deal with Moton.

If your best RT can also be your best LT, then you move him. There should be no question about it. People who can be decent, much less good, LTs are rare and needed. While there's truth to the saying in today's NFL defenses attack both sides of the line equally, it doesn't translate that LTs and RTs are of equal value.

Beyond the whole blindside issue, you have to understand that the RT gets more help both from a TE presence AND from the way that plays are designed to move to the right more. Running plays alone often target the right side more than the left to better utilize the interchange between QB and RB, FB orientation and even the general tendency for linemen to be able to work to their right sides better (not to mention that it makes D-line players move to their left -- something that can make for a needed half-step advantage for the offense). For those reasons alone (and others) it is easier to train up a RT than a LT.

LTs just about have to be wired differently to be able to adjust to that initial movement (and much of what follows) heading toward their non-dominant side. Around here people laugh at the "He's left-handed" idea, but there's some truth to it. The LT has to go to their own person weak side most often while the DE opposite them is generally moving in their natural, stronger direction.

If Taylor Moton can play LT at 85% of the ability he has at RT, then he'll be the best we've had at that position since Jordan Gross left. 80% and he beats Oher. That's a big deal around here. Right now, we are a wasteland of has beens, never was'es and walking wound factories at LT, so just even trying him there is a step in the right direction. And replacing him at RT should be much simpler --- frikkin' Mike Remmers was our RT in the Super Bowl...

Give Moton the shot and if he can do the job (and I think he can) then give him the money he wants and lets get this thing back on track.

To be fair, last regime two years, current regime one year... though from a fan's perspective, that may be a distinction without a difference.

To be clear here, I surely hope the coaches don't do what the huddle suggests 95% of the time. (unless of course it was my idea). Who says Moton could have played left tackle 3 years ago or even last year. Heck it isn't decided he is the best guy this year. So while it has been suggested for a while it is far from settled  or proven to be the best plan.
