It’s the dog days of summer and with not too much going on in the news cycle the 704cast crew decided it was time to have our final Vent session on the Cam Newton era. Join us and listen in on our 2 hour round table discussion on the Cam Era. We talk about everything from the college days, the organization, the media and the fans. Just a disclaimer the language can be rough at times so be aware if you are listening around little ones or at work. As always like/rate/subscribe.

maybe this will help you with some closure as it did for us! And if you want to bash us bash away ✌️

as always we appreciate all Panthers fans and love this forum and appreciate the mods for allowing us to post!

My brain has moved on since that's the business side of this game, but damn there's a special place in my heart for Cam (Steve Smith too) and what he did for this community and organizing and I'm really miss him.

Always man! It’s something we just couldn’t skip over, we didn’t want to move on without putting this content out!

The microaggressions he was subjected to were exhausting. He made games fun to watch and that translated to his teammates despite some observers wanting as often as possible to detach him from that natural joy that he played with. He detested losing so much so that it sometimes got the best of him but it cannot be disputed that he changed the culture for the better. He carried that mentality with him in the years that followed even as some fans and the local media were practically kicking and screaming about changed norms along the way. If Carolina can recapture anything like that again soon we will be very lucky.

Cam injuring his shoulder and depriving football fans of what could have been will go down as one of the biggest travesties this city has ever experienced sports-wise.  He was on a legit Hall of Fame trajectory, and all that came crashing down because he was forced to sprint the entire length of the field to make a tackle on a turnover.

He may not be done but his time as an elite QB in the league likely is.

It's a very sad thing to see because the Carolina Panthers were in part responsible.

He looked like the same old Cam last season as a runner. Had not one TE to throw to, why BB doled out the $ for two good TE's and two WR's - '21 NE will easily be best supporting cast on offense Cam's ever had, he's going to be elite

He is in Charlotte.

He'll be our QB again in his age 36 season

Other than the MVP year, not sure Cam was very elite.  He had good years and mediocre years.  Rarely "elite" when compared to the best the NFL has to offer.

Cam was the teams leading rusher every year until CMC's second season ..

The receivers drafted for Cam couldn't have been worse .. Benjamin and Funchess .. the entire offense was Cam.

Cam would have been a better WR than any WR outside Smith, that he's played with, and even then, Smith was 32 at the youngest

Cam singlehandedly carried an NFL offense for years, that's elite.

Mahomes has Andy Reid, weapons galore, and great LT + line to this point, easy to put up huge #'s in that situation, a situation Cam's never found himself in until 2021 .. MVP #2 coming for Cam

No he wasn't. Cam was the leading rusher in 2012 and 2017. Not every year.

    • I don't get the Hunter hate. Just imagine his ceiling if he stopped trying to be this 2way freak and focused on one side of the ball
    • 100%.  You have to play the cards that are dealt.  Not the cards you wish were dealt.
    • I'd say its definitely going to be addressed this off-season.  We went into the last draft with a roster of RBs including:  Chubba, Blackshear, and Miles Sanders. We picked Jonathan Brooks in the second and still signed Rashaad Penny afterwards.  Fast forward....One turned into a top 10 back, 1 is injured/out for most if not all the '25 season, 1 retired, 1 will either take a huge paycut or be cut, and the last is a restricted free agent. We brought in Mike Boone as well. Add him to the free agent list also.  We need a physical option.    Which qualifies:  Ashton Jeanty(Boise St): Overall ranked Top 10. Almost 2k yards after contact, 28 tds. Would take our first rounder. My money would be on an NFC East team selecting him. (97.2 PFF run grade) - 121 forced missed tackles.  Omarion Hampton(UNC): Ranked everywhere from 20 - 59 overall. Consensus #2 back after Jeanty. He'll be a second rounder. 1,222 Yards after contact w/ 15 tds.  (90.5 PFF run grade) - 72 forced missed Tackles Kaleb Johnson(Iowa): Ranked from 38 - 69 depending on which media outlet you prefer but generally #3. 2nd/3rd possibly. 1,060 Yards after contact w/ 21 tds.(86.7 PFF run grade)- 66 forced missed tackles Cam Skattebo: Ranked from the 50's - 104. Every mock I do he ends up BPA at some point. 969 Yards after contact w/ 17 tds(92 PFF Run Grade). Probably the best receiving back of the group. 81 forced missed tackles.  If the '24 and '25 draft classes were combined, IMO the rankings would be, in order: Jeanty, Hampton, Brooks, Johnson, Skattebo. I wouldn't take one high but I'd take one for Chubba and Brooks insurance.
