The ugly lineup

Even if you do plan to sign Moton long term, it would be smart to have a backup plan just in case you can't.

Oh I agree with that.  I like a Front Office who thinks ahead and makes some plans for player succession.  I just think Moton is one of the guys a team would do well to keep and pay.  So I'm biased and yet also hoping Christensen turns into a really successful player wherever he lands on the line. Depth on the line is EVERYTHING as we know all too well from the trainwrecks of 2016 and 2018-2019.

There's a part of me that still thinks next year's draft is when we try to get our left tackle of the future.

Obviously though, if a guy like Taylor Moton were to win the job and do it well, that plan changes.

He will need a backup and future replacement.  Is that guy on the roster already?

I think these coaches are betting on themselves.

Cam Erving was a first round draft pick in 2015 whose play hasn't lived up to that.  Rhule and co may think they can get more out of him.  Erving even  mentioned the parallels with Darnold in his press conference.

I think contract negotiations are playing into this.

I think the LT talk is Moton looking for LT pay.   We have to groom a successor if those go sideways, and we need a good backup anyway.  Moton is one of, if not the best RT in the league right now.  He's already on the books for 13...its going to get expensive.  I too hope they find a way to pay him.

We don't know each player's state of play now, or mid season.

We probably won't have the same line Week 8 as Week1.  So we'll have a better idea with training camp and actually see who's healthy, whos ready and whos hungry.

We've got to get this right.

With what Rhule said yesterday, and today...I'd say he's a backup to Moton at R.

Left will be Erving, Scott, Daley.  Wow did not see that coming.

If this plays out as it appears and  Erving is the front runner, not depth.  I will have been wrong on all counts.

Crow is warming up on the stove, and they don't even have pads on yet.

Paradis is about the only spot spoken for and Moton will be one of the Ts. With Daley, Erv, Elf all being injury-prone....its safe to say the OL will be in flux for parts of the season. Rooks round out this unusual group.... OL coach Pat better be a warlock or its along season ahead...OL is not a strength but its not a weakness either given depth has a 10 solid bodies, but all it takes is a bunch of injuries and Darnold will be there soon after.

Christensen played a whole lot of RT today with the ones. They may be looking to get him experience there in case a deal can't be reached with Moton long term.

Haaaa the vernon butler maneuver, worked out super for everyone last time.....

Moton didn't initiate trying him on the left side though.

The coaches did.

I wonder why Rhule talked the way he did yesterday then.  Maybe I misinterpreted what he was saying.

Oh well.  I'm done guessing what is going to happen here.  Its clear they aren't sure.  It could land a bunch of different ways.

I probably won't believe anything until we snap the ball week1.

OMG people. It is practice. They are trying things. Nothing is set in stone. What happened last week, what happened this week, none of it matters. Sheesh.

Keep your panties on, at least until Training Camp. Then you can overreact.

lol telling the Huddle not to overreact. Has that ever worked?

"We want you to play LT while we pay you like a RT."

Hey, I hope it works out. That'd be sweet.

Well to be fair, he’s wanting LT money without the LT title and responsibilities that go with it. Maybe the staff decided to franchise him and give him the chance to make even more money, only time will tell.

Yeah, people too easily forget that Darnold has never been healthy enough for a full slate of games either.

The fate of that OL shuffling is going to impact how much we see Darnold, even outside his play.
