We had some great players on that team. You can’t really compare the two. That defense was light years ahead of this one too.

The backend of that defense was a joke.

Journeymen that wouldn't have started anywhere else.

The front 7 was elite.

If we win the Super Bowl it will likely be because:

We snuck in the playoffs by Darnold being smart with the football, making plays when needed, but not forcing what isn’t there; while the defense was a top 10 unit.

Once in the playoffs, the defense lets loose and smothers everyone we play. Taking risks that pay off. Offense is much the same, with a methodical efficiency. A few 50/50 balls gets us the wins.

We avoid the injury bug at thin positions (like linebacker)

Donte has a probowl 6 int season.

The oline stays healthy enough and performs well enough to keep Darnold upgright.

Tremble lays wood all over the field, Darnold and Marshal pull down TD's in the RZ.

Brady and Rhule keep their aggresiveness and improve end of game clock management.

Snow becomes more aggresive with the better man power.

Oh and Slye becomes a solid crunch time ace.

This is fun.  Great post.

Oh and did I mention luck?

Yeah *** ton of luck.

Slow Sunday huh? The Panthers would have to play much better in the division for this to even be a thought. Brees and Julio exiting is a plus but if we want to win the South we need team leaders to assert themselves in a big way. I am optimistic about Darnold and our receiver core but I have a hard time believing his decision making takes a big enough leap for a postseason run.

Different league though. Back in those days DBs could get away with murder compared to today. Ricky Manning Jr. pretty much had his career ended by the change in calling illegal contact.

Am I the only one on here that thinks the NFC south is up for grabs?  I firmly believe this is the year it all implodes for Brady.  I think New Orleans is probably rudderless without Brees and the defense of ATL makes them vulnerable.  I do think their offense will still be really good.  But man my head says this is finally the demise season for Tom Brady.  Something is going to happen whether its injury or his arm just stops or maybe both but damn man I just cannot get on board anointing them a favorite knowing their qb is 44.  I have been 44 and I played sports in high school, poo pops and aches and is tight just rolling out of bed.  I cannot imagine what he feels like trying to get the day started.

Isn't that what we thought last year when Tom was throwing pick sixes early in the season? Next thing we know he's tossing the trophy to Gronk on a boat in Tampa. I wouldn't count on a quick demise for the Bucs. They still have a loaded roster. The Saints and Falcons may be a different story but Atlanta has a new coach now so that's unpredictable.

@LinvilleGorge can you nix my extra post? Thanks.

If he doesn't retire it will happen at some point. Father Time is undefeated but Brady sure is putting up a helluva fight.

Done.

I hear you man but even if your roster is loaded without a competent qb things get dicey.

Yeah, the biggest difference year over year for the Bucs last year is that they went from Jameis throwing 30 INTs to Brady throwing 12. Jameis put up big numbers, he just turned the ball over waaaaay too much.
