Best Coaching move of the Season.

Last 3 games?

The one where we ran all over AZ and only let jake throw 14 times, only 7 of which he completed....but yeah, no INT's. whew

Or the one against the Saints we lost because the Saints D vs. Jakes Passing game scared the coaches away from needed pass plays trying to manage a win on strength of our Running Game?

Yeah, what a QB we have now!

we were still in position to win that game had Dwill not fumbled and given them another touchdown. I still support the decision to run down there though. We all know what would have happened if jake took the snap and got hit in the endzone and fumbled anyway. This board would have been 100x worse. HGG would have at least 30 more threads saying the exact same retarded ass thing. AKPantherfan would want to make 3 more banners to remind Jake what happened and how they should be reminded, and Zod would go on vacation and not post huddle kittens for 3 months.

Safe to say, thank goodness that Dwill fumbled and not Jake.

Jake himself said in a post game interview yesterday that Rip has had next to NO influence on his game. He actually said none, and the only thing different in his game as a QB has been after the surgery, and that he's thrown a few high. Maybe he didn't want to throw his coach under the bus, but according to him, nothing has changed. Yesterday was the result of the No Huddle, not Jake getting to use his "old mechanics".

Jake has never played as bad during his career as he did the first handful of games this season.

Yes the Arizona game was bad but all QBs have those especially against good teams. Even Peyton Manning.

I wasn't aware that the QB coach was new and screwing with his style. If Jake continues to play decent to good football then its pretty clear that it was coaching.

Jake would never ever ever blame his QB coach or anyone else for that matter. So i don't really trust what he tells the media.

And if they weren't messing with him then why make the statement after the Buffalo game that they were gonna stop messing with him?

What Jake sucks at is throwing into double coverage or throwing it up. Noticed he only threw one really poor pass yesterday and thankfully Smitty broke it up. Still when he can evaluate the defense and find the guy in single coverage like he did with Moose several times yesterday, he did fine.

He still struggles against tight man or a good zone against a good rushing defensive line. At least now he seems to be doing a better job of checking down. Is it me or are we playing alot more three receiver sets or sending both tight ends into the pattern? Seems there are more options versus the only 2 receiver options of last year.

it could be we are using 3 receiver sets more.

we should be. pull those men out of the box and make them have a little respect for the passing game.

i'm just upset that we couldn't get some of the younger receivers involved.

i wonder if we could have won last week if we had used the "hands off" approach against the saints.

I like Rip. He did a solid job with the young kids in Cleveland, one of which went to a Pro Bowl, even though obviously we now know neither of them are worth a damn.

But, I think post-Tommy John, Jake's not consistent week to week. As a matter of fact, that's pretty obvious. One week he's high, one week he's wide. One week he's on. The end result is that the same stuff isn't going to work every week. So, you go a little more hands off.

I'm a strong believer in QB coaching. I think it's an art not everyone in the league believes in, and that you have to be coached well. But, the Mike McCoy school of being a QB's buddy instead of coach may work best for Jake, and Jake can figure it out for himself.

Perhaps. But with that said, I wouldn't extend the same courtesy to younger guys.

Wouldn't you say there are only a handful of really good QB's who don't struggle against any defensive scheme?

Jake is an average QB; no one ever said he was extraordinary. He's standing out as "bad" because of poor decision making and bad luck, as well as him having the guts to throw anyway, regardless of what we or the media think. If he had just given up after the Eagles game wouldn't that have been worse? Jake isn't that bad; in fact, he compares well to a lot of QB's in the league. There just aren't a ton of Brett Favres or Peyton Mannings in the world.
