Robby Anderson being shopped?

Not buying this. I do think ANderson wants a new deal and panthers want to wait. Hes a bargain and turns 30 next year I think. Id wait on him too, Rhule and him seem like they really enjoy each other. I see Anderson testing FA next year and coming back to Carolina after egos by both sides get checked.

The moves so far have definitely leaned under 30, FWIW.

I wonder if this was just merely testing the market for big offers. May not mean much other than that. Considering how they traded down to gain more draft capital, they could have been shopping guys to accomplish the same thing.

The only reason I could see us not resigning him next year is because DJs in a contract year too, and since he's home grown, younger, and balling, they might not be up to the prospect of paying 2 wide receivers 10+million contracts.

I'd hate to see him go, so I hope it doesn't come to this.

It's why we drafted Marshall IMO. He's similar to Robby. It's tough having two big money players in a position group.

The one thing that makes me ponder the possibility is that if I recall correctly, Anderson is in the last year of his contract with us.

It's not unusual for GMs to try to get something out of a player in his final year if they don't think they'll be able to re-sign him.

I think this is a very plausible rumor for a number of reasons. I don't know if I buy them being a candidate to continue shopping him. But, as you said, perhaps they don't think they can extend him so they want to get something for him.

I would really hate to see him shipped off prior to this season.

Is agree, especially since he and Darnold seem to have good chemistry.

But hey, that's football.

kinda odd we would have to take on dead cap to trade him though. Especially with Marshall being a rookie. Just seems a bit odd... 1 year left on a manageable contract.. and a coach's favorite.

"Shopping" him very well could mean we were just shopping for an idiot. We probably had a shoot the moon price for him and no one bit

Its one big mixed bag. I did learn form Anderson alluding to not taking a discount to join Rhules crew, I thought the opposite. 30 at a speed position, most times its over or at best 1-2 years left. Everyone wants security and more money, Anderson may only want a 1-2 year extension, who knows. Finesser may have heard that along with a 20 million tag/want/demand..... and thought "not a single chance, better check his market value".

At the top of my favorite players picked are two WR- Smith and Marshall. Man o Man if Marshall can stay healthy AND unlock a couple of levels.....Steve Smith will have competition for many of his all-time panther records. Marshall is a 200+LBs, real 6'2, real 4.4, and came to LSU as 5 star player. He was the one that was going to have Chase stats, he was the higher rated WR than both Chase and Jefferson. Shi Smith feels like a slot nightmare. Without the super size or super numbers, but hes quick in tight space. I thinks he a great slot for this current panther O, see who replaces Brady after he leaves this coming year, but WR group will be in great shape for the new OC.

I figured Robby would be a candidate for an extension but instead looks like Fitterer was looking to unload him.

With D.J. due for a contract and us having TMJ to develop there's very little reason to believe we're gonna pay for a role guy nearing 30 who will probably want to get paid.

That said I'm not crazy about trading him. Let him walk get a comp.

It's certainly possible, but I'd need a better source than Walter Football before I'd be willing to take it too seriously.

It's Charlie and he doesn't just toss poo and let it stick. He's usually good with his sources.

Shame he's stuck on Walterfootball tho

    • I don't get the Hunter hate. Just imagine his ceiling if he stopped trying to be this 2way freak and focused on one side of the ball
    • 100%.  You have to play the cards that are dealt.  Not the cards you wish were dealt.
    • I'd say its definitely going to be addressed this off-season.  We went into the last draft with a roster of RBs including:  Chubba, Blackshear, and Miles Sanders. We picked Jonathan Brooks in the second and still signed Rashaad Penny afterwards.  Fast forward....One turned into a top 10 back, 1 is injured/out for most if not all the '25 season, 1 retired, 1 will either take a huge paycut or be cut, and the last is a restricted free agent. We brought in Mike Boone as well. Add him to the free agent list also.  We need a physical option.    Which qualifies:  Ashton Jeanty(Boise St): Overall ranked Top 10. Almost 2k yards after contact, 28 tds. Would take our first rounder. My money would be on an NFC East team selecting him. (97.2 PFF run grade) - 121 forced missed tackles.  Omarion Hampton(UNC): Ranked everywhere from 20 - 59 overall. Consensus #2 back after Jeanty. He'll be a second rounder. 1,222 Yards after contact w/ 15 tds.  (90.5 PFF run grade) - 72 forced missed Tackles Kaleb Johnson(Iowa): Ranked from 38 - 69 depending on which media outlet you prefer but generally #3. 2nd/3rd possibly. 1,060 Yards after contact w/ 21 tds.(86.7 PFF run grade)- 66 forced missed tackles Cam Skattebo: Ranked from the 50's - 104. Every mock I do he ends up BPA at some point. 969 Yards after contact w/ 17 tds(92 PFF Run Grade). Probably the best receiving back of the group. 81 forced missed tackles.  If the '24 and '25 draft classes were combined, IMO the rankings would be, in order: Jeanty, Hampton, Brooks, Johnson, Skattebo. I wouldn't take one high but I'd take one for Chubba and Brooks insurance.
