How much of the Jets performance was really on Darnold?

What is more likely:

1)Darnold with a better oline, wrs, running back, OC and HC plays much better than Bridgewater....along with JC Horn improving our secondary substantially.

or

2)The 4th QB chosen in the draft from Ohio State goes to the BEARS and balls out.

If I had to pick, I say 1 is more likely.

Honestly, the most likely scenario is neither.

True, but Jake 1.0 was sufficient to get us to the Big Dance.  If Darnold can become Jake 2.0, it will be hard to argue that the trade for him was a bust.  Consistent playoff appearances should be a reasonable metric for success.  YMMV.

If he can max out his potential, sure. No question it is a good trade.

Consistent winning should be the metric for success. It is something no Panthers team has ever achieved.

I agree.    After another year of gelling and Brady retires, we'll be looking at clearer path.   8+ wins this year and beating one winning team, would show us we're on the right path.

My gut reaction is that you're right but...

Do you think the most likely scenerio is Bridgewater > Darnold?

I don't think that is an easy answer and it depends on what you want as a fan and team.

I think Teddy is far more likely to be a steady player, albeit unspectacular. I think Darnold is much more likely to have terrible games and much more likely to have great games. So, if you have a team that can win games without a QB(like the SB champion Broncos or Ravens), Teddy is probably your guy. If you have a team built like ours, Darnold is more likely to have some more success because we have the horses to really put points up for the few times Darnold is just on fire.

If I was going to say who would perform better in 2021? Statistically Darnold should be better because he has no actual competition to face. Teddy will be in a race with Lock. If I had to bet, Teddy will have w better QBR and QB rating than Darnold but Sam should be better in almost every other stat(other than completion percentage and TD:INT ratio).

2 is basically what happened with Deshaun Watson

Tannehill was flat out better than Darnold was in NY, to go from the worst starter in the league to above average has rarely EVER happened in NFL history

Desean Watson is fantastic but still has lower winning percentage than Jake Delhomme. The team matters.

Had Jake played for those same Houston teams, his winning percentage would have been abysmal too. Even the best QB can only elevate a franchise so far.

So it's likely Sam does not play better than Bridgewater with the team he's now on...

Is that the prevailing opinion here?

Better in what regard? I don't doubt he will struggle to eclipse some of Teddy's statistics because he is a completely different type of QB. I would be shocked and appalled if he doesn't outperform other statistics that Teddy put up in 2020.

If we get down to the nitty gritty, it should come down to winning actual games. IMO, he should perform better than Teddy because Teddy mustered only 4 victories as a starter here. Even with the extremely low opinion of Darnold that I have, this team should win more than that even if it is literally in spite of him.

(I disagree, of course, but I digress)

I do believe this subject will not go away any time soon. There will be folks harping on any bad throw, from day 1. There will be folks preaching for patience. And you have folks who believe there is a chance he improves, given the circumstances he finds himself in at this time.

It all gets meshed together for a Huddle stew. Add some salt and enjoy.

You forgot to add :  There will be folks who would harp on him negatively no matter what he does, due to stupid reasons like PJ-worship or wanting Fields or just plain disdain.

I try not to engage those types. They get nasty when you won't bow down to there view.

Out of sight, out of mind for those types.

    • I didn't say much bigger. Watch the highlights I linked. Bryce doesn't have the arm strength and/or talent to make the vast majority of the throws Mac made in that video.
    • Tetairoa McMillan.   The last 28 1st overall picks were either a QB, DE, or OT. Seeing as I don't think we'd take an OT in the 1st and give up on Ickey as an LT yet and there doesn't seem to be a clear overall #1 type of QB or DE pick this year, it very well could be a non conventional #1 overall this year, at least in regards from the last almost 3 decades of drafts. If we didn't have Horn, I'd be more open to Hunter as a CB at #1, but we have him so another CB wouldn't be how I'd use a #1 pick.  And as much as I love Legette, if we have SB contending aspirations, I don't think Legette is a #1 on a team like that, but he damn sure is an elite #2 on a team like that.  He's more of the Smith/Higgins/Waddle to Brown/Chase/Hill (in terms of role/impact, not style of play of course). T-Mac is going to be the top ranked WR on every team's board in the end.  He is going to be a true outside #1 WR who is viewed as a consensus Top 5 WR in the game by his second contract in the same way guys like Jefferson and Chase have done.  His height combined with his speed, athleticism, and hands are near impossible to find all in one player, there is a reason his generally used comp is Mike Evans (although as he's not as thick, I personally see him more as an AJ Green). Yes, as an Arizona alum I've admitted to having bias towards the player to begin with.  But he's also someone very widely being put into the Top 5 in mock drafts lately and most of them have him as the first non QB offensive player being taken, so it's not really THAT much of a homer pick on my part anyways. If a QB or DE truly separate themselves as being a can't miss prospect come draft day, I'm open to that discussion, but until then, or if it doesn't happen, T-Mac is my pick 100 times out of 100.
