Sam Darnold's "Style of Ball"

It's not premature. He absolutely was a bust for the Jets. A former #3 overall pick getting traded for a future 2nd and a couple of late rounders after three bad seasons of play is a bust.

Alex Smith had some good play later in his career, but he was still a bust in SF.

So the Jets, whom have been going through head coaches like most people go through underwear.  Because the new HC wanted his own QB, and chose to move on, he was a bust.

Got it.

Pointless talking with you any further on this subject.

I am hoping the OL questions subside but the draft picks and FA signings don't give me a good feeling about our OL improving. So, Darnold may not be set up as well for success as is being assumed. The offensive weapons and Brady's scheme should serve to alleviate some of that if the OL is subpar again.

The big question is how Darnold is going to adapt his style to Brady's system. Hopefully we get Joe Burrow and not Jameis Winston

Our OL does not give me a good feeling, either.  If Christenson and hopefully Brown can move into the starting lineup (and not by attrition) by weeks 8-12, it would be a good move.  Otherwise, I hope they are better than last year, but that is not a high bar.  While some point at numbers that place us just below the middle of the league, every number I see about QB time to release or pocket time indicates our ranking is skewed by one of the quickest snap to throw or snap to collapse times in the league.

I'm not as convinced as the consensus around here that our OL was better than what Darnold had with the Jest.  They ranked lower...but also had longer times by which to give up sacks.

I'm hopeful about Darnold, but largely because he is 23.  The two risks are that he was not able to turn the NFL corner to begin with, or his time with the Jest beat his ability to do that out of him.  But, his attitude so far (including work ethic) should give him the chance to elevate himself, assuming he is capable and we don't get him killed.  He certainly was not a statue with the Jest, but if we have yet another situation where his brain associates dropping back with running for his life, well, that is not exactly conducive for improvement in the passing game or better decision making.

Yes, he's a bust. He played terribly. They moved on because he played terribly and they thought Zach Wilson was a better option for them moving forward. Baker Mayfield has had four head coaches in three seasons but the Browns didn't move past him because he hasn't played terribly and they didn't view someone else as a better option.

Sorry man, as much as you don't like it, barely over 8000 yards and 45 TDs vs. 39 INTs is a bust. We're just hoping he can bounce back from being a bust, but arguing that he wasn't a bust is just blind homerism. If a division rival had made this trade and hitched their wagon to Sam Darnold we'd be laughing our asses off.

The Jets new front office waited, evaluated Sam and the Top QB prospects in the draft, then made their decision.

What came of their evaluation of football talent was the #2 selection of Zach Wilson.

Now was that decision a mistake, time will tell. But I can tell you that they are and were very confident in making that decision for a reason.

Read it...and came to the following conclusions.

1) he's a hack writer (sounds more like someone trying to impress on a message board than a professional writer)

2) he doesn't like mobile QBs

3) he's a  bitter TB fan

4) he's talking out of his ass

If Cam even makes it to the 2nd half of this season without being replaced by Mac Jones, THAT would be an accomplishment.   lol.

This talk of him being the MVP on the Pats is so amusing.

    • One has a proven, offensive-minded, Super Bowl winning head coach along with a top 5 OL + defense. He's being protected and getting the ball back not having to chase the other teams. The other had Frank Reich + Thomas Brown their rookie year with a bottom 5 defense as well as a bottom 5 OL that gave up the 2nd most sacks against a rookie QB ever. The sophomore season is being ran with a top 5 OL but also with a rookie HC (that has just one year of OC experience) and a bottom 5 defense still. The Broncos defense has allowed over 20pts just three times this season (26 vs. SEA (L), 23 vs. LAC (L), 41 vs. BAL (L)). Meanwhile, the Panthers have had ONE game where the defense gave up less than 20pts (vs. NYG (W)).   I'm not sure how folks couldn't expect Bo Nix to statistically perform better given their incredibly different situations. With that said, I didn't expect Nix to keep ascending as impressively as he has this season. Hopefully his arc will give other older college QBs a better shot, especially given the recent media blitz against the NFL regarding how development of the QB position in the league seems to be non-existent. Hopefully Bryce continues to improve as well, of course.
    • “You can learn a lot in 10 games,” Nix said. “[I’m] still learning, still growing, but just finding ways to execute the play that’s called, no matter what it is: run play, pass play. It doesn’t matter. Just finding the right way to go with the ball.” To that point, Nix noted how his developing partnership with head coach Sean Payton has helped Denver’s offense get to the next level. “To be honest, I think at the beginning, you kind of make the NFL bigger than what it actually is,” Nix said when asked where he feels he’s made the most strides. “These players are really good, but at the same time, you have really good players on your level. I think simplifying the game, trying to play as fast as possible, and finding a completion, which is what we’ve been able to do here recently. “I think as we’ve gone on, Coach and I have found a good rhythm of what we both like, what we can kind of put out there on the field, and what we can execute. Then the guys have kind of adapted to it, found our roles within the offense, and executed at a high level. It’s just all about slowing the game down and processing things in a manner that you can handle. Just kind of see one or two things, and let those guys take you to where the ball is supposed to be.” -Bo Nix From what I'm gathering regarding Bryce, the Panthers entered this season with a reset mindset. It's Young's rookie year, which explains the benching. Now, we're beginning to see the development of Canales and Young's offense. Slow development but we're winning 😃
    • Bix has more tds through his first 11 games than bryce has his entire career....no comparison at all he made amazing throws during his first games his decision making just keeps getting better.  Young does not have the physical ability ro make the rhrows bo makes
