Why Tommy Stevens will be the #3 QB

What evidence was there of Taysom Hill doing this before leaving BYU?

So it becomes evidence for Stevens because the saints wanted to be dipshits and take away touches from Thomas, kamara, etc?

I do not support Taysom hill coming on the field for the saints so why would I support our team doing the same thing?

Look our OC wanted to bring him in after working with him in Penn St.  He definitely knows the ability of Stevens and what a player like Hill brings to the table having coached with the Saints. Let’s sit back, enjoy the show, and let our staff do their thing. It’s our job as fans to get excited and look forward to new players and a new season! If he makes the team and is used, it’s like MHS said, it makes opponents game plan for wrinkles, takes hits away from CMC, and can step in with our backup QB and help the offense if Darnold has to miss a game or two.

I honestly think we need a better 2nd qb...I would really like gardner minshew if he gets cut or is available in trade.  If darnold goes down or is terrible, we are sunk imo.

As for Steven's, I like the idea of using him like taysom hill if he shows he is capable.  I think the Swiss army knife role would be great for our offense and st.

If Darnold doesn't pan out, that is easily the worst assembly of QB's in the NFL currently.

And yes, that has been on my mind.

It has been one of my biggest worries about Rhule. Does he realize that even though he was an organizational rehab specialist as a college head coach, he doesn't have to make everything in his NFL job a rehab effort as well? From the walking wounded pick ups in free agency, to taking a swing at a historically bad-performing QB, to passing on draft picks to get more players from deeper in the draft... it just makes me wonder if he even realizes that he has better options out there available to him?

On the flip side, if Rhule hits on one or two of these rehab attempts, he'll look like the football whisperer. But looking at this crew, those are some big ifs.

Yeah, I have the same doubts in the back of my mind.

Is he so confident in his ability to maximize everyone's potential, that he is ignoring what it takes to be a great professional football player? The warning signs are all there. Dramatic preference for very young players. Drafting guys based on athletic ability and measurables rather than actual accomplishments.

When I let the serious doubts creep in, all those thoughts go through my head.

I want that to be needless worrying.

Any value we can get from a 3rd QB is a bonus.  Whether he plays special teams like Webb used to do, or he lines up somewhere on offense to make defenses have to adjust.  That will have more value than Grier holding a clipboard in street clothes each week.

We keep saying, "Brady likes him" but I am not sure that is a ringing endorsement after TB.  I wonder how much tinkering Brady did with Hill in NO to make this happen, and if he wants to continue that project.  I get what people are saying, but I have always wondered why a #3 QB takes a roster spot.  My ideas have been to keep your #3 on the PS, use Bonnefon, and now this--probably the best of the three options.

And I agree--the #2 QB is the spot we need to build, so maybe we shall see.  We could keep a QB (probably will) on the PS as well.

Webb is a great example.  There is no reason we can't find an athletic #3 who can help in other ways--like finding a roster spot.  And to the argument (not your argument) that it is taking a role or position from someone else, you still have 53 football players.
