Looks like Watson will settle lawsuits

ESPN's Sarah Barshop reports a member of Tony Buzbee’s legal team has approached Deshaun Watson to discuss "working things out."

It's the first signs of a potential settlement for Watson. The plaintiff side initiating talks also suggests there's some level of concern about the case. With training camp two months away, Watson should be motivated to settle, though his playing status will be subject to an NFL investigation. The NFL has interviewed four of the 22 women with lawsuits against Watson. Even if his legal issues are resolved, Watson is likely to be suspended for some or all of 2021

They've made an offer to his team. That usually comes with some exposition of information that basically says, "This is what will nail you, do you want to avoid it?" If he takes the offer, the court case goes away, the plaintiffs get paid and the attorneys get their cut. If he says he'll fight it, expect some of that evidence to "accidentally" be leaked to the public to put further pressure on him.

Will he settle? Depends of if he is either 1) sure that he is perfectly innocent in every single case or 2) that he's not innocent but stupid enough to think he can somehow outsmart a team of lawyers. I think there's too many individual counts for him to have a shot at #1. Smart money says his attorneys will make a decent counter offer on the settlement, they'll dicker over the final price (no pun intended) and we'll never see it in court.

What the NFL does to him then is up to the commissioner and his advisors. Since this is a civil case and it may not make it to court, it leaves the NFL with no legally binding judgement of guilt or innocence to use in their decision. That sucks if you are the league because now you have to look at the possibility of a suit filed against the league by Watson's attorneys and the NFLPA if he is suspended, or the potential public outcry if he is allowed to play again immediately with no repercussions.

One guy's pecker hasn't had this much impact on the league since Jerry Richardson was caught cruising the secretarial pool.

Should probably be considered for the greatest quote thread. 😆

Huddle quotes count right?

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
