Teddy on Joe Brady

If someone gave me a microphone after leaving a bad job I would probably be in court.  Sure he was to blame, and the practice schedule is not his call--My dad used to say, "When you do your job to perfection, then you can question how others are doing theirs if it impacts your ability to do your job to perfection."

Teddy in Denver is good because the altitude will keep his passes in the air a bit longer.

One of the things you do to help a young OC is pair them with a veteran quarterback.

That didn't really go so well for us.

Yeah, I know Teddy's shortcomings.   It is why I didn't want him and wasn't excited about him.  I was the dude lobbying for PJ Walker all season.

I also think Teddy came off bad.  Thought he came off bad while here.  He never took stuff on the chin like a Cam Newton did and still does.   It's why Belichick brought Cam back.

All that said....

I still think he brought up something noteworthy about Joe Brady in year 1 as an OC.  I would hope in year 2 the practice reps amp up in that department.   We do sound light there.   And we definitely looked weak there.

Sounds like a fair and very specific critique.

Out staff was 99% new to the NFL. Of course they don’t do a lot of things well. They’ll learn.

They still did better than 7 other veteran staffs.

but I do think Joe Brady has a lot of room to grow...despite already being impressive.   And maybe his hands were tied.  Not a normal offseason.  No preseason.  Maybe it was a choice he knowingly made that they were better off focusing more time on getting the overall offense down in such a weird year.

Yea that's beyond fuging obvious. You have to install an entire offense in the COVID offseason. They almost certainly didn't get everything in the base offense and probably added things as they went along in the season.

But even still a rookie OC has things to work on...no fugIN WAI. For that matter Rhule had shitty clock management too as he clearly was used to college and the clock was derped often. Nothing that was said is anything close to an issue atm. Nothing, close, at all.

What I've said in private about previous jobs is completely different to what I've said in public - and I wasn't being paid $20m, nor could multiple people tear my story to shreds if they so chose.

But in fairness, he didn't say they never practiced it.  Just that it was noteworthy how little they devoted to it vs elsewhere in the NFL.

2 minute, redzone and short yardage were areas from watching that stood out as problems for an offense that overall was schemed pretty dang well.

Could this be an analytics issue? Could they be spending an equivalent amount of time practicing red zone as they actually spend in the red zone? Meaning they are spending more time practicing between the 20s. As we improve moving the ball into the red zone, maybe the time devoted to practicing there will increase.

    • Richard Sherman got dog piled for basically saying he didn't stand out as a WR prospect but looked elite as a CB prospect. A few months ago you could find other players commenting on his limited route tree and raw route running but the search algorithms are flooded with love affair right now. The guy is the best CB prospect in years and he'll contribute on offense too. That is the absolute opposite of a knock on the guy. It's just the people buying into him being a full time two way player in the NFL like he was at Colorado who gets their panties in a wad over just stating the simple reality that he ain't gonna be a full time two way player at the NFL level with 17 games seasons and no Travis Hunter fan should want that either if you want the guy to make it to a second contract.
    • You do know you have to be invited to College GameDay? They called him out there and asked him about it and he answered it. And do you think he would have this type of interactions with a coach he doesn't have that type of relationship with? You're reaching to the furthest extent lol. I've seen a video of Hunter literally getting cursed out by Shedeur by not catching a BAD pass from Sanders and he didn't say anything just went out and caught a TD pass the next play! A "diva" would've got into a shouting match with his QB
    • WHAT?!?!?!?! Honestly for the life of me, I can't figure out what you're saying here.  How are you saying their supporting casts cancel each other out and Hunter STILL had the better season? The supporting cast is LITERALLY the reason that he had the better season statistically.  If you put T-Mac on Colorado in place of Hunter, I'm 100% convinced he'd have had better stats than Hunter did, as he already had almost the same number of catches, and more yards, with a significantly worse QB and with zero other offensive weapons to take any attention away from him like Hunter had. If you think Hunter having 7 more TDs is more because of Hunter vs T-Mac and not because Hunter's QB had literally DOUBLE the number of TD's this year than T-Mac's QB, then I have some Arizona oceanfront property to sell you.
