Does it really happen often enough to have reliable data?

I mean Alex Smith and Tannehill would automatically bring the success rate higher than the hit rate of the NFL Draft. This mainly due to the limited amount of sample data.

Honestly, the reason Eisen didnt ask that question is because its not an intelligible inquiry.

Tepper leaves the Football to Rhule and Scott... but he asks great questions. Tepper has a unique eye and a way of seeing things. Talked about diversity of opinion. "When everyone is thinking the same, no one is really thinking."

I was happy to hear him say that. Overly involved owners are a huge problem and I feared Tepper would be that guy.

We felt like Sam plus another player was the best approach.

Quotes Bill Parcels: "One person can't do it alone."

He believes in Sam. The hit rate on first round quarterbacks isnt real high... so they took Jaycee Horn. They really approached getting Sam Darnold as if they got a first round talent so they didnt have to look elsewhere.

Every time they watched film (offense and defense scouts saw), he made some big time plays... There has to be some meat on the bones there. Thought he lookd alot like Matt Stafford. They saw enough shining moments. His former teammates and coaches speaks well of him.

Coach Rhule is a Nurture vs Nature- believes we can foster the right coaching / culture environment that will help Sam grow with the rest of the core.

When the Jets interviewed him for the job, they facetimed him Sam. He asked questions about the culture of the team, discipline and accountability. He didnt get the Jets job, but when he got the job at Carolina, he remembered that interaction.

On CMAC- He's at 100%. He's excited and in a good place mentally and physically. Big expectations for him. We want to give him every chance to effect the game, but we want to keep him healthy. Drafting Chuba was a big part of that. We want to be smart about the toll it takes on Christian.

Talked about being the youngest team in the NFL.

Tepper calls players on the team when things happen. He knows Rhule's kids by name. He calls staff members when things happen in their family.

Matt Rhule saw Joe Horn in the parking lot and fanned out at JayCee's pro-day.

Thanks.

Our friend Sizzlebuzz isn't going to be real happy to hear the Tepper thing though.

I think they are looking at him being 23 years old as a rookie with more experience. Rather, just a really young guy who they can build around for a long time. I mean that's what you're wanting when you draft what you hope is a franchise QB.

He did mention, though, that there isn't a really great hit rate in drafting QBs in the first round.  It's always a gamble, even this year. We'll be lucky to see half of the QBs taken in the first round still starting after 3 years.

One thing Rhule also mentioned  was that when his defensive staff was looking at jets tape, snow said he looked like Matt Stafford.

Rhule also talked about conversations with him when Rhule was up for the NYJ job a couple years back and being really impressed with the tone and direction of the conversation with him, like Darnold was on another level maturity-wise.

I don't think it has anything to do with an aversion to rookie QBs and everything to do with believing in Darnold.

He went into pretty good detail about why he thought Sam Darnold can work in Charlotte. He talked about how his defensive staff first came to him and really loved what they saw, that every single game he made numerous big time plays. He went back and watched college games, his Pro-Day, and Jets games and really liked what he saw. Then the price got right and they went out and got him.

To give you some context, there were some big fans of Justin Fields on here who, prior to the draft, had talked themselves into believing that Sam Darnold was only picked up as an insurance policy just in case we couldn't get somebody better.

The way the draft went down didn't exactly meet their expectations.
