yeah, he's my favorite as well. but i do ike we are looking around a good bit. jimmy raye is an interesting candidate, though.

Pretty sure he was one of the sham interviews they did when they were installing Hurney for his second run.

But yeah, he'd actually be a pretty good candidate. Heck, I'd take him at another executive position even if he didn't get the Assistant GM job.

Not GM assistant, Assistant GM. Basically the second in command.

right.

I meant that.

So what does an Assistant GM do exactly?

I know the GM has the final say on things but I'm just curious...

That varies by team.

In some team structures (the Giants for example) the Assistant GM is a cap guy who oversees and negotiates contracts. We already have a guy who does that though.

Morgan is a personnel guy, so my guess would be that his duties here would probably involve oversight of college and pro scouting, basically an extra level of management and an extra set of eyes.

I know most dont care about this or practice squad stuff, but I do.

Thanks for the updates Scott and Juan.

Like @BurnNChinn posted, it starting to feel like GM search.....and Morgan is no longer the top choice. Im all for casting a wide net and it doesnt hurt getting someone form a different team than who you normally steal form. Matt berry hasnt been mentioned, hes my pick.

I don't know if Morgan is no longer the top choice or if they're just covering their bases / doing due diligence, etc.

Morgan and Fitterer are close friends who have worked together before, but of course Matt Rhule does have to sign on as well.

Not to mention Tepper too. It seems they are looking for forward thinking high IQ person thats not scare to dis-agree with them. Morgan does feel like Finesser is hiring one of frat boys as a favor. Honestly I forgot the guys name and this is 'old" thinking, Ryan Cowden(had to cheat) is another one I thought always had a good resume. For me in the last few drafts Chargers, Vikings, Ravens, and.......ugh the Saints... all have drafted very well, pick out who has helped the most and give him a tepper bag.  Bring in a outsiders rather than Philly(why keep going there??) and NE pool.

Exactly. Don't forget how they talked about learning a lot during the GM search about how other organizations operate. Maybe they're trying to glean more knowledge.

The presumption is Rhule has final say.

Org chart:

 Tepper > Rhule > Fitterer/GM > Assistant GM

----------------------------

If Rhule really does have final say the GM and Asst. GM are really serving in senior scouting/analytical roles...

...fancy titles but their responsibilities don't correlate with those who have similar titles at other NFL franchises who are employing the "traditional" (archaic) NFL model.

They’re just being interviewed due to the Rooney Rule. If we’re smart, we’d start hiring some good minorities so when they get hired elsewhere we will get comp picks in return.

Quit trying to make this seem difficult. We all know it’s Dan Morgan. Even the other candidates know. They’re just being interviewed due to the Rooney Rule. If we’re smart, we’d start hiring some good minorities so when they get hired elsewhere we will get comp picks in return.

You have no idea who Jeff King is, do you?

    • they have the best defense they've had in a long time...probably the best in the reid/mahommes era.  but i think they are probably the most beatable they've been in a while as well. record doesn't exactly bear that out, but they just don't look as strong on offense as they usually do. lots of reasons for that, like trying to build chemistry with newer receivers, but right now they just aren't as frightening as they typically are. i mean they'll probably win tomorrow, but i don't see them as the strongest team in the AFC right now.
    • He will likely remain unsigned the remainder of this season(barring someone being in a pure QB panic AND making poor decisions) largely due to the cost. I do think he will get multiple offers to be a backup QB and perhaps a couple to potentially start this offseason.  I will continue to beat the same horse over and over.....he should go to a successful team with an established starter. If I were him, go to somewhere like SF, LAR, etc. Somewhere with a successful QB coach and brilliant offensive mind and ALSO a set situation at QB. Ride the pine and adjust for a year or two. Chill and be around better culture. I would suggest the same for Bryce but he will be limited to wherever we can trade him.
    • I dont think the clock has started yet on canales.  Once he gets his guy then the pressure starts.  WFNZ/mike kaye said  yesterday that he thinks there are 4 options here regardless of bryces status, Geno, Fields, Wilson maybe Jones.
