If you're making a claim that Fitterer is feeding the media false information about our draft then let me know your evidence beyond speculation. If you're trying to convince me that Fitterer was the secret source of some Panthers draft information, then I need more than your hunch. Did someone in the media tell you that Fitterer gave them draft information and told them not to name him as the source?

Fitterer doesn't have to feed it. It gets out there on its own.

All he has to do is not refute it.

No mental gymnastics required.  Clearly Rhule and his staff saw enough good in Sam Darnold to trade for him.

In fairness, they worked themselves into a position where they forced themselves into having to bring in someone.  At least someone generally on par with Teddy.

Teddy got thrown too hard under the bus while they scrambled for Stafford/Watson.  He was done here after that.  Everyone saw that.

I mean I advocated for the Darnold move....because it was clear we had to do something.   It was the best move to make after the position we found ourselves in.

It was their last veteran resort. I'm starting to think this staff is afraid of rookie QBs.

Too early to tell.

If the Darnold trade didn't work out, who knows, maybe the first pick would've been a rookie QB? Or maybe they'd have gone after another team's backup?

Rhule has only been a head coach for one season, so it is hard for me to say if he is set in his ways.  I suspect he isn't, but there is no way to know for sure.

Rivera/Hurney, they're pretty much a known quantity at this point in their careers and I'm good with them working for another organization.

One thing we know about Rhule is he doesn't say negative things about potential draft picks. He wouldn't comment when skipping over Fields was brought up after the 1st round. He doesn't like players being talked about in a negative way. I don't think Rhule would be happy with his coaches leaking "Panthers not high on player X" type information. So is it the Panthers janitor leaking the information?

"But I think he sucks, so they must believe that too because there's no way I could be wrong!" 🤬

I very well might be and he may pan out. But one thing I'm definitely not wrong about is that he is definitely not "basically a rookie". If you're buying that line you'll buy oceanfront property in Nebraska.

After what I just witnessed these last few days, I don't get the impression that Fitterer and Rhule didn't have a well considered list of possible replacements.  They likely just went down that list until they secured a QB.

Was Darnold at the bottom of that list?  I don't know, but I doubt it.

Again, there's a difference between him being a rookie and him being treated as one.

Rhule has affirmed that this is the plan, and from what I've read about his time in New York, I agree with that approach.

The Athletic had a pretty detailed article about the process that led up to the trade.

I don't think anyone is confused about Darnold being a rookie.

However, he is rather young, like a rookie, and he still makes a lot of rookie errors in judgement.  He spent his first years in the league w/an organization notorious for lacking good leadership and coaching.

The impression I get from Rhule is, he is going to hit the reset button on Darnold's coaching.  I believe that is a good call, lower expectations and focus on the basics.  It isn't hard to view that as basically treating Sam as a rookie.

Yeah, and it seemed that Fitterer and Rhule targeted Darnold awhile ago.  It took the Jets awhile before they were ready to have the discussion.

Right after they lost out on Stafford. But yeah, the Jets wanted to finish their evaluations.

They checked on Watson at roughly the same time, but Houston never budged on not trading him and then the allegations happened. Honestly, the more I read on that topic, the more I think those "Watson at all costs" stories were a lot of smoke and not a lot of fire.

They explored other options while waiting on the Jets, but never moved away from Darnold. It wasn't until Justin Fields pro day that the Jets were finally ready to deal, though even then some people were hesitant.

I was initially disappointed with the Panthers organization for making public comments that made it clear they weren't happy with Teddy's performance.  I still consider it a misstep on their part that likely made it harder to move Bridgewater.

After that, Rhule became much more refined/cagy with the information he shared with the public.  Does Fitterer have anything to do with that?

I don’t think he was at the bottom.  I wanted Sam because I thought he had the biggest positive/upside out the guys available we would be able to pursue.  But they forced themselves into the position of having to get someone comparable to Teddy at minimum.

I don’t see us really that much different now vs the start of last season on the QB front.   Just hope the outcome is better.   Which it likely should be.

But we still need a QB.  Just like we did when we brought in Teddy.  I viewed Teddy as a bandaid until we could bring in someone.  That’s still Sam from my outlook.  And I don’t think the coaches would or should say that reality then or now.  They give traditional coach speech on it.
