Projecting the starting and rotation lineup this year. How's it rank?

DJax will probably play outside. He ended off the season really hot outside and does pretty well against WRs that match his height weight combo.

I have no idea what we're gonna do at SS but out of all positions to be completely lost at SS is probably the least damning.

Can see us bringing in a veteran LT or watching cuts closely for competition. Maybe even a trade.

Losing Teddy means we lost any semblance of a competent backup and that worries me.

Not the worst group of problems to have tbh

I have to admit I'm much more excited for this season than I was a couple days ago when we passed on Fields.  The roster has a lot more talent than many Panthers teams I've watched.  Darnold only needs to be a bit better than teddy and this team has a chance to be competing for a wild card spot IMO.  If he actually takes major positive steps the offense will be real fun to watch.

Just having a healthy CMC all year last year would have probably added another couple wins to our record. This offense has crazy potential. Darnold needs to just eliminate his mistakes. We have 5 WRs that can take it to the house on any given play and the best RB in the league when healthy.

Free agency and draft are in the book. Let's see how we stack up. Based on our very incomplete depth chart, here's how I'm guessing we stack up going into the season.

3WR1TE formation shown here with extra positions added to reflect heavier package and reflection on defense. These positions will cover ~85% of snaps in the NFL.

Assumptions: Anderson plays a lot of slot, Chuba is RB2, Christensen wins a starting gig (his competition is greg little lol) and boat sized kid from alabama won't start quite yet.

On defense we see Pride out wide, kicking Jackson to nickel in 3WR packages (half of Snow's snaps) and probably CB2 on 2WR sets. Horn gets thrown into the fire. LB additions kick Chinn back to safety full time as the position is trash and having him and Reddick on the field at the same time is awesome.

Overall weaknesses: CB2, FS, LT, QB

Are we done in free agency? I'd love to see us add a safety and a corner. Ride or die on the ginger cringer. Maybe grab a veteran cut at tackle out of camp.

Overall I think this is the best team (outside QB) we've fielded at the beginning of a season since 2017. Given the question mark at QB I'll take it.

I hope we aren't paying Potted Plant too much sounds like he won't be much of a help to our defense.

🤣

Think David Moore will start WR3 but Marshall will have it before the end of the season. I think Pride would play nickel before Jackson. He would be good but Pride would struggle on the sidelines. Also think Elfein is more of a back up center/back up guard don’t think he’s gonna hold a starting spot.

I think Marshall is the instant wr3. He’s already familiar with Brady’s system which is a huge thing for a rookie and he’s insanely more talented.

And to add I think we’re gonna see DJ lined up in the slot more which is gonna be crazy.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
