I have to admit that's one thing I question.

You have the third pick and pretty much everybody knows who's going one and two.

What the hell is the point of smokescreening from that position?

I think the smokescreen is merely them second guessing themselves after such a bold move.   Because really, what is Mac Jones going to give you that Jimmy G doesn't?  Given this is Kyle running his scheme/O in SF.  Does Mac really make you better?

Well, I guess you could say the Jets haven't been the best at evaluating QB's.  So, from the 49er's perspective, do you really want to name your guy and have the Jets snag him?  It would be just about the most Jets thing that could happen.

Is it actually 4D chess?  The 49ers smokescreening people away from Mac Jones to make someone else take him?  I dunno, it's the lying season for sure.  I can't fathom Mac Jones at 3.  But I couldn't fathom Trubisky at 2 either.

Everybody knows who the Jets are taking.

Everybody knows who the Jaguars are taking.

My point is, why didn't the DUI knock Mac Jones? It's being totally ignored.

It was headline news 4 years ago!

He owned it and learned from it, a life experience.

If he was stupid enough to go out and get one with the draft hanging in the balance it would have an impact.

Exactly. Right off the top of my head Cam and the laptop incident, Baker and 'running' from the cops... there are plenty of examples where guys were not docked for a past poor decision that hasn't been repeated. I'm in no way condoning drunk driving of course but some situations are bigger red flags than others that are easily correctable.

Now, if one wants to ask why it's not being discussed at all (assuming it hasn't, I really don't know) while things like Cam and the laptop were brought up ad nauseum then that's perhaps valid. But Mac is certainly not the only high-round draftee being forgiven for a past mistake.

When did the Fields’ Georgia “issues” happen? He doesn’t appear to have any issues at OSU?

I think what people are saying is Fields and Mac aren’t getting the same treatment. Mac shouldn’t be shunned for this incident and he isn’t, but if Fields had this happen to him would it be an issue?

Dak also "owned up to it" and apologized 18 million times. It still made him fall. They rode Cam his entire senior year and afterwards, but he was too good for the "knocking" to work. My only gripe is this guy is getting off scott free for what normally hurts other players. I can't stand San Fran, and I hope they do select him.

I didn't know anything about Dak and had to look it up, but from what I can tell that issue was right before the draft. The big difference, as SizzleBuzz pointed out, is the potential stakes around draft time and the maturity of a player making a decision and even being in that position at all vs something that happened well in the past and that a player has clearly learned from (assuming Jones has). Dak had no such window of time to reestablish a baseline.

It's an understandable difference IMO, though like everyone else I can't say definitely that that was the only factor.
