49ers have narrowed down their decision on the No. 3 pick to Mac Jones and Trey Lance, per @RapSheet

imagine trading all that SF traded to get up to pick 3, and not being completely sold on your pick when you do it.

for the record I feel like they know damn well who they're going to pick, but they want to leave open the small possibility of moving again on draft day or something. or, John Lynch has made a huge mistake and the 9ers will either get really lucky or Lynch will get thrown out on his rear end in a season or two.

Gonna be Jones.  Not going up to #3 for a smallish school QB with basically 1 season of film.  They may see some Mahomes in him, but that is a long shot.

It’s narrowed between Mac Jones and Mac Jones. Seriously they can’t afford to miss on this pick and Mac may have the lowest ceiling, but his floor should be pretty high (especially in that offense).

What I heard, well heres the timline- 49ers made the trade. kyle shanahan runs the show and he wanted Mac Jones. Two days later, it leaks out the scouts/front office peeps want Lance. Kyle listens some and they are begging him to pick Lance. Both Fields and Lance want to play for 49ers cause the rate of success will be higher, each hold 2nd pro-days. That turns into recent heat about Lance to 49ers, but the person in charge still wants Mac "****"Jones. Thats where they are today.

Why would there be need to smokescreen the pick when picks 1 & 2 are all but confirmed? Not like they're trying to trade back after giving up all those picks to move up.
