Seems like a lot of strong opinions on these guys..

Are they the smartest people in the room? A good additional resource? Or do they over analyze everything?

 

How do you guys view them?

I tend to go back and look at what they said about players in the 2018 draft, for example.  Not that they are any smarter at identifying talent that GMs and scouts--and they blow it in round 1 about 47% of the time, so who knows?  The best thing for me to do is read multiple sources and find similarities.  Some are patterns, some are parroted comments from social media.  Hard to say--

Their stats breakdown is very good and analysis is insightful, but they do think they are the best minds in football, which they are not.  Crunching numbers and providing insight based off that data does not make you a great evaluator of talent, it just means you can interpret the produced results.   There is a human element to evaluation that numbers simply can't define...character and intangibles.

They have some questionable grading systems. Some positions are evaluated better than others. I like the work they do on WRs but not a big fan on how they evaluate QBs or OL. IMO you can find better eval for free.

Fans like them if they agree with their narrative or hate them if their numbers don't support their narrative.

PFF has a very successful model of providing actual tracking stats and tendencies to teams. Their publicly available grades, though, are rather ridiculous and are presented as a "stat" though all they are truly are subjective tape grades.

If they were anywhere near as smart as they think they are, some NFL front office would give them a crap ton of money and hire them to build a team to dominate the league.
