So, who has more pressure?

Who has the most pressure?

  1. 1. According to analysts Darnold needs better weapons, better system, better coaching, so where would the pressure lie?

    • Sam Darnold
      10
    • The Brass- Rhule, Brady, Tepper.

This is the problem I have. This guy has played terrible. Threw 9 td passes last year. We picked up his fully guaranteed 5th year option. A second round pick and 23 million guaranteed for a top 5 bust. That’s bad business. It’s not smart. It’s a desperation move because teddy was so awful. That was another terrible move and we are doubling down. I get the guy has potential and a better arm but not at that price or draft pick.

Now if fields or Lance drop to us at 8 and we take one I’m decent on this deal. But it still makes absolutely no fuging sense to pick up his 5th year option when we haven’t seen how he’s played in this system with these coaches. Every bit of cap matters in constructing your team, throwing away precious cap when we have to resign our core and hopefully sign FA to get a balanced team is just fuging stupid when you don’t have to do that. We continue to make wtf moves.

It makes sense in some respects. We have a lot of pieces we need to fill, and the desperation to get a new QB for a lot of teams has driven the price through the roof. While we have to give up a 2nd and some cap space, this isn't a 40m a year contract and it isn't 2-3 1sts plus. That's what we may have had to give up to move to 5.

I fully expect us to trade down if Lance is on the board. We can get a lot from one of the teams that could still be looking to trade up. If the top 4 are gone, maybe someone moves up for Jones, or we stay put and grab Sewell, Slater, Chase, a top CB. This opens up a lot of room to maneuver, even if we are out some cap space.

If we trade down while Lance is on the board then I’m gonna laugh my fuging ass off for eternity.

sam Darnell isn’t gonna win us a Super Bowl. I’d take the chance on Lance being the guy at 8 then passing and hoping Darnell proves he’s something he’s never shown in 3 seasons.

a top 3 pick in year 3 threw for 9 tds. That is a bust. I understand the thought process of the move but its the doubling down on these qb projects. We should’ve never been in this situation to begin with and that’s managements fault. We should’ve done a clean rebuild. So this is the choice that they’ve made and they have to live with it. That’s why 2023 they’re on the hot seat if they haven’t got a franchise qb. I’ll hope for the best when games start but I’m not expecting anything much from him. If they draft Lance or fields at 8 I’ll be pretty happy. But I’ll never be happy with picking up darnolds 5th year option when there was absolutely no reason to as it stands right now.

Dude is still 23. Was Tannehill a bust?

Again, I grant you the 5th year option. Other than that, I fail to see how the sky is falling. And you keep referring to him as a “QB project” which is fair enough but what do you think Lance is?

That’s your opinion. But if you are being objective it’s pretty obvious Lance has WAY more hurdles to clear than Darnold. Lance is a project pick. Banking on him to be the franchise guy is as outrageous at this point as how you feel about Darnold. And I’m a Lance fan.

Because they totally screwed up the first year of said “rebuild”. And now have guaranteed another 18M for a QB to be something he’s never been before. Sound familiar?

   Truth touched a nerve I see...LOL

Perspective is everything.

The team didn't screw up its first year of a rebuild. The moved on from a broken QB and went with someone that  everyone knew wasn't going to be a franchise guy.

Now, the very next season, idiots like you are claiming their fuging up again by once again, trying to improve the QB position.

The money you're talking about is peanuts.

Please, come back with something of substance.

So coaches hitched wagon to teddy last year (woops) and have got hitched to donald not just this year but next (atleast on $).

The interesting thing on the extension: they had till after this year's draft to decide on that. If "their guy" at qb was there at 8, they would not have had to pick up year 5 at 18+ million and roll into 2022 with the anointed one.

Darnold will get his millions now, he is set (year 5 = payday) outside of football now. The top2 coaches in on this need this to work out. They already fired 1 blank, 2nd would be an issue moving forward. Does he want a fat 2nd contract, sure but dude is set.

I still think the 2nd is a bit more than Darnold is worth. Rosen went for a 2nd but had a lot of cheap control left. And people knew he was out of the starting gig because of Murray. It wasn't like Sam was holding off the #2 pick in Wilson. They also had a backup with 1 cheap year left, not 3.

Fitterer paid a lot for 1 cheap year of Darnold, and already paid good money for 1 more year before the draft where you could get your guy (fields or lance).

I don't think Darnold will be terrible but the process here is questionable. That's mybissue. Think they overpaid what the market was/would become. Think they hedged the bets on the 5th year option without knowing how the draft unfolded. Could both work out for the team still, yeah sure, but not the greatest process here.

It all depends on if the coaching staff believes in him. I'm not in a position to say that. If Chicago offered us 2 1sts, 2 2nds and 3rd to move up would you stay put and take a guy from a small school that's going to take a couple years to develop. That's a lot of capitol put in front of you to build a complete team. That's a lot of capitol to move up next year and take Howell if you think he's the guy. It all depends on how the coaches feel about likely the 4th or 5th rated QB in this years draft.

Yet the guy who they Knew wasn’t a franchise QB 34M guaranteed. That’s brilliant. Now they get to eat 20M in dead cap to get rid of him. Brilliant!!!

And now they are following the same plan with another flawed QB.

The team wasted 80M last year trying to win a couple more games. Glad you consider that peanuts. That’s why the Panthers do what they do. Fans like you who believe every move they make is perfect make it easy to be average or less. And acting like the same people that predicted many of these situations have no clue is laughable. What would you like to discuss. We can go back and see our opinions on anything? Let everyone judge the “substance”.

Darnold hasn’t cleared any hurdles. He’s a bust. He threw for 9 tds last year. That’s the worst of the worst man. Sorry but even if you’re surrounded by lack of talent a franchise qb can still put up better showings then that. That’s what we need to be striving for. Cam did it with shitty supporting cast for years. Those are the types of players we need to be looking for.

These are all opinions. I am being objective, what darnold has shown in 3 years is not good and that’s putting it nicely. I would most definitely take the chance that Lance turns out as a franchise changing player then what darnold has shown in 3 years in the nfl.

I don’t trust this coaching staff after teddy to make good decisions on qbs anymore.

yes I would stay put and draft Lance if he fell to 8. That’s just what I would do. People really need to stop with Howell. Whoever has that number 1 pick is not trading it away.

Ding ding ding

the team believes they just stole an elite all pro caliber QB (or worse, don’t feel as if having one is essential)

having to watch the rookie QBs go star elsewhere is going to sting a lot

hope you guys don’t have any incriminating posts making fun of bears fans for passing on Watson or mahomes because now we’re very much in danger of it

You just bypassed a chance to go out and get an actual upside QB prospect

If said prospect develops into a star, you will be held to account for that

nobody cares about this trade if they end up with a rookie QB, the reality is that it’s unlikely

Who did they bypass? The only option that’s bypassed at this point is deshaun watson
