Bucky Brooks won't be sucked into Mac's meteoric rise

I dont agree with Bucky on much of anything, but I do here.

Very very simply- RPO. If jones does RPO, ZERO respect form the defensive. ZERO. If Lance or Fields do RPO the defensives must account for it. RPO is a staple in college and more than a few NFL run it as well. Well the D may fall down in laughter form Jones during a RPO, so he may get some yards after all.

That comparison is idiotic too as Tony didn't just find some suit or stone he made that poo along with a super AI. Superhuman intelligence is easily the best "super power" and that's what makes him able to stand along side the people with fleeting physical abilities.

Can't even nerd right, this is why it's hilarious to watch nerd culture become main stream. At least the bandwagoning media is consistently incompetent with anything they try to latch onto.

BB doesn't exactly rep NC well with his history of QB evals either...don't claim Raleigh with those predictions on your resume man.

I just can't get over the title of this thread. "meteoric rise" ( no offense intended at the poster)

I'm pretty sure meteors don't rise but fall.

Secondly, I tend to stop reading anything once I see the words "Bucky Brooks".

Especially when it comes to QBs. He's terrible and he has an agenda that he promotes when it comes to QB evaluations. He's all about athleticism. If it were up to him, no kid that couldn't post a 4.60 or better would even be allowed to listed as a QB and half of the NFL would be running the Ravens' offense.

I thought the same thing about "meteoric rise", but it is a thing (as in a legit normally used term)!

Think "sudden and brief" and maybe "brilliant"!

It is akin to an oxymoron of sorts though, but not in the classic sense of the definition which usually involves an adjective followed by a noun (e.g., "Cam winning the Super Bowl with the Patriots would make many Huddlers feel sweet sorrow").

Ah, didn't know that. Yeah definitely seems like an oxymoron.

People who know Shanahan say Mac is his ideal QB.

I really don’t get it.

It's because coaches like Shanahan believe in their own system so much that they just need a guy to do as their told. They prefer a QB to run the "system" than a qb who can improvise.

Thats the double headed sword of the QB position. Take a guy who can make every play on a whim. Or Take a guy who will make the play that's expected, no more or no less.

I as my own arm chair GM will lean towards the athletes any day of the week. But guys like Drew Brees and Tom Brady counter that argument pretty strongly. Neither of which were star athletes in terms of underwear sports.

It's funny because of the ridiculous situation. Jones going 3rd for a mammoth haul? What could go wrong...

Brooks isn't some great talent evaluator, he is just an ex-player doing mocks in the offseason filling dead air. Pretty much entertainment value only.

What exactly is Brooks not buying in to?  A meteoric rise suggests something gets instant dramatic attention but disappears quickly. Jones already got the first part of that. Is he saying Jones won't disappear?  Whether he's good or not this rise can affect the draft.

Bucky Brooks just comes out and says it in his title: "Mac Jones not worth a first round pick," and he pointedly, if not colorfully, tells us why with his Iron Man comparison. He generally believes that Tony Starks suit made him a superhero and Jones' supporting cast made him a superhero in the eyes of many analysts. And Brooks is not falling for this Jedi mind trick.

"While I'm not issuing a complete dismissal of Jones' talents as a pinpoint passer with nice timing, touch and anticipation, he significantly benefited from playing behind an NFL-caliber offensive line with first-round talents at wide receiver and running back. The Crimson Tide offense was the armored suit that elevated Jones' game, and scouts need to keep his production in perspective when gauging his talent."

Brooks then tells us that Brooks will need that super team in order to showcase his limited ability, because he won't be using his limitations to truly elevate others around him like true franchise QBs do in the modern NFL.

"The 6-foot-3, 217-pounder doesn't display A-grade arm talent or athleticism between the lines. Jones lacks the speed, quickness and running ability to extend plays or create big gains outside of structure. Moreover, he is confined to the pocket as a statuesque signal-caller built to throw traditional dropback passes behind a fortress."

And Jones might go above Fields or Lance, but Brooks is obviously having none of it.

"Comparing Jones' skills to those of Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Justin Fields and Trey Lance, there is a drastic difference between the Alabama standout and those other projected first-rounders. Jones is nowhere near the athlete of Fields or Lance, and he lacks the magical arm talent to compete with the quartet in a game of H-O-R-S-E."

In his article, Brooks has made a Starks--err, stark comparison between Jones and the other four in not only physical talent, but the talent around them, even using "drastic difference" and "significantly benefitted" to make his argument. There really isn't any question as to where he stands, and it will be interesting to see the kid's career path. After everything I've seen and read, I'm thinking that Big Mac's ceiling is a weak-armed Joe Flacco, but I could be wrong. I just know that I don't prefer him, and Brooks' analysis probably makes me lean more of not wanting him at all.

Rashod Bateman looks to be a better receiver than Jones is a QB though.

Someone needs to remind ol bucky that the most important traits for a QB are IQ and accuracy.

Of which you could say Mac is tops in the draft.
