Fields' main concerns arent going to show up in scripted workouts.   I think everyone expected him to look really good in workouts.  His concerns are fast decision making and making quick reads.

I think a lot of that is bologna that gets repeated.   Lot of that is just the schemes.  If he played in Clemson's offense people would say he makes quicker decisions.

Bucky Brooks I think has a good video addressing some of these false narratives about Fields.   There is some comical lie repeated on the internet about how some anonymous source with a team claimed he threw to his 2nd read a comical small amount of times.  as Brooks explains, you then go watch his film and you realize that is just repeated internet nonsense on social media and not true.

Yeah read Belicheck looked at Josh and shook his head like WTH we doing here at Jones pro day. If 49ers select him at 3 there needs to be some heads rolling. There is no way he is better than 32 guys in the first round. I think people are saying crap, the pick will be Fields or Lance for 9ers

Mark my words, Jones will be the first of those QBs listed to find lasting success in the NFL, except for maybe whoever the 49ers take at #3, which may well be him.

Lawrence and Wilson will probably be headed to Jacksonville and the Jets right away. They are in for a difficult transition, no matter their skillsets simply because you can only untangle a trainwreck so quickly. Lousy organizations with loser mentalities and players who'd rather be somewhere else. Expect nothing from either of them than talk of how good they are going to be when their teams come around in three to four years (barring more coaching changes).

Fields, for all his accomplishments just seems to be someone they want to compare to someone else and he keeps sliding down draft boards. Not sure why, but that's just how it's shaking out. Lance looks like a wunderkind, but he's not just young and athletic but he's had fewer starts that heck Will Grier and faced lesser competition in the FCS division. He could well be great, but he's got a major learning curve ahead of him.

Jones, for all his knocks, is now getting derisively compared to Matt Ryan. The unathletic, whitebread guy with a braided belt, as someone said. Ryan, hate to admit it, has pretty much eaten our lunch over the years -- 9-2 since the 12/27/15 loss that ended our undefeated season en route to the Super Bowl.

We are not contending regardless of draft or who plays QB, might as well let the rookie play. Still, we are better off without Teddy than with him in any scenario. There will be a couple of QBs available at Teddy's skill level for dirt cheap after the draft, they are still with teams hoping to trade them...just like Teddy. Save a couple of million and get another whoever.

Don't agree at all. One of the main reasons Bridgewater was brought in was because he knew the system and taught it to everyone else. You don't bring in a rookie into this system and expect them to pick it up in one off-season. We are on the hook for his money one way or the other. But it doesn't stop you from drafting a guy and bringing in a vet on a cheap rookie contract. You give up a roster spot by keeping 3 QBs but with a 17 game season you might need that many.

Then you get rid of Teddy after this year and move on. But you don't get rid of the one QB who actually knows the most about Brady's system.

Maybe but then they were completely wrong. I'm hoping that was more Hurney then the remainder. This is not a team that is near contention with Teddy as a QB. What was it, 0-8? That's non-playoff quality right there.

Teddy knew Brady's system last year and looked terrible. Just not worth keeping. If that is Brady's security blanket we would have been better with him leaving this offseason.

Honestly I wouldn’t have a problem with signing Alex smith or trading for Minshew or Darnold although I would rather have Minshew than Darnold.

Minshew has had a QBs rating over 90 in his first two years despite being on the jags. Although I don’t think the Jags offensive is horrible it’s average at best. At worst we end up getting an average QB in my opinion. If he fails then we can always draft a qb later. Why not save our draft picks and build a great team to where we can win without a great Qb?

We already have Alex Smith.  We don't need him again.

Darnold is what he is.  He was an inconsistent QB with an average arm and questionable decision making when he came out.  He's still that.

Minshew on the other hand, I can get behind.  So yes, the Jags are 7-13 with Minshew at QB.  Not great.  Bear in mind, that with every other QB not named Minshew over the last two years they are 0-12.  His numbers look good.  Good completion %, high TD's, low INT's.  What more do you want?  I honestly don't understand why they won't support him.  Imagine the draft haul they could get by trading that pick this year.

You draft a QB and cut Teddy next year without having any dead cap in 2022.

Teddy will still hit us for $5 MILLION in 2022 from his signing bonus proration. The only way to avoid it in 2022 is to cut him preJune 1st this year (or convince him to pay it back)

I still don't buy the Jones with the 3rd pick, anything is possible I just can't believe it till it happens. I don't want Jones if he falls to 8, just get a LT and start planning a 2022 high pick. June cut Teddy and do in 2021 what we should have done in 2020.

If SF takes Jones and Atlanta somehow passes on a QB, we will be fine.  However, if SF takes Fields, all bets are off.  Take the T and trade up with the second pick for a CB and call it a day.  I dont think we like Jones that much and I do not think Lance fits well---but who knows?

It would be great for us if Jones is gone before we pick. I just can't belive that the 49ers would do that until they pull that trigger. I am absolutely on board with your plan if Jones is the QB available at 8. Take a LT and grab a CB next.

What’s the point of cutting him now? We could’ve cut him before free agency, we didn’t. I don’t even know why this is being talked about. It’s wishful thinking. We have a better chance at Trevor Lawrence at 8 than cutting Teddy this year.

which simply is not true.  We will have $5 million dead cap in 2022 unless we cut him and take the hit now.

Cutting him new opens up slightly less than 3 million in cap space. That becomes a little less than 8 million with the June 1 designation which pushes the 5 million for his signing bonus to 2022.

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
