Joe Person: Panthers don't love other QB's besides Lawrence and Wilson

Signing a veteran QB familiar with a new offense + staff during a restricted offseason to a team-friendly deal where he is never paid as a top half QB in the NFL is a good thing.

Worst case scenario was that he declined (which he did) but the deal still allowed the team to wait on a QB while it addressed other areas of need (which, as we saw with Houston netting 4 wins this season despite Deshaun at QB, wasn't necessarily a bad thing). At worst, he'd start for one more season and we'd have a more complete team to install a rookie or other veteran.

But hey, good on you for having to make a new account this month? 👀

Let us just call it for what it is. We got played like a fiddle by Sean Payton into believing Teddy could be more. The worst thing we can do is double down. Get back to what made this team a hard nosed competitor in our division and not a one win wonder just happy to be here.

I don't think you could say they "loved" him. Liked, perhaps.

The contract they gave him was basically a "bridge" to "maybe" deal, though granted Marty probably overinflated it (not exactly a shock).

d&d nerd GIF

The fact that he's paid at best 15th of all QBs iirc and the QBs making less are either rookies or strictly back-ups poos all over the "WE'RE PAYING HIM <INSERT TOTAL CONTRACT VALUE HERE>"

Did he shake out? Nah, but nothing was ever built in a manner to fall apart if he didn't. Quite the opposite if anything.

By all accounts at the time the other teams sniffing around looking to sign him were blown out of the water when we swooped in with our offer. We then proceeded to get Teddy out front and center in all of our media activities to show off our new face. Yes maybe we didn't "love" him but we damn sure were hard up to acquire him.

Delusion.

So just to be clear, because I'm not comfortable taking Lance at #8 I'm delusional?

If he's there at #40 I'm running to the podium - that's a low risk, high reward pick.

There's arguments that Mond will go in the first round too - I just wouldn't take him there.

I get that but I just don't buy that a man who has a giant set of balls on his desk and paid a new head coach 100 million dollars handed the keys and full authority of the trajectory of the franchise to Marty Hurney while completely removing himself and said new head coach from the process. It was undoubtedly a collaborative effort if anything in bringing Teddy to Carolina.

The decision to bring him in would have been a subject of discussion, but when it came to the contract offer neither Matt Rhule nor Joe Brady nor anybody else would likely have had much to say.

Tepper? Maybe, but I wouldn't bet on it. Yes, Tepper did trust Marty. Thankfully, he learned that was a mistake, but that he ever did doesn't really say much for him.

Because you suggested Lance could potentially be a late round flier pick you're delusional

I was the biggest proponent of taking Mahomes you'll find - when every other Panthers fan was swooning over the broken down QB we had under contract.

That dude screamed generational talent.

Nice try though.

Yeah ok. No one knew Cam was done after 2016. He was 1 year removed from MVP. The draft talk that year was Fournette vs McCaffrey and Running Back vs Non RB. People were pissed at Ron for playing him in meaningless games in 2016 when he got fuged up but most assumed he would bounce back, which he did kinda in 2017.
