Quarterback trade options

To me Darnold is like Teddy in the sense that you know what you are getting, and it isn't a top shelf franchise QB.  However I feel like Darnold is an upgrade from Teddy.  Teddy is stuck as 14 TD and 10 INT kind of a guy.  I feel like a career year for Teddy might be something like 18 TDs to only 8 INTs or something like that.  I think a team picking up Darnold is getting a 25 TD and 12 INT type guy if they put a decent cast around him.  That's where he will live I think, with the potential to have a 30+ TD season scattered in there.  AKA Andy Dalton with a better arm.

Darnold doesn’t have a history of a catastrophic knee injury and an average arm. He has very little comparable injury history and has as good an arm as anyone in this draft....

Trade a 3rd, draft offense, go to the playoffs.

That would be the playbook for getting Darnold...

You get Zach Wilson’s talent (that has been wasted in NY) and stick him on the team with a ton of weapons....and all you give up is a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

I’m almost certain that is what both the Broncos and the Panthers are thinking right now if Lawrence, Wilson, Fields, and Lance are all gone by their pick.

Stay put for now...make a trade on draft night if the top 4 are all gone.

Give me Jimmy G. He's on IR early in the year and we cruise to Sam Howell with Will Grier starting at QB.

Not wrong. Healthy jimmy g looked good for 1 full season and in parts of 2 prior. Last year yuck but that was all san fran.

If he plays, he's good enough to command the weapons we have well (now the line would need to keep him up and that's a stretch right now).

If the line let's him down and  gets him hit, likely breaks and road to top 5 pick again.

Only way I take jimmy is on a pure swap with teddy and 4th or lower going to san fran. Both teams can cut bait next year, and san fran gets some play money now.

Minshew and Garoppolo do not offer any traits that we currently don't get from our starter and I see no point in sinking more cap/draft capital to make a move for a lateral.

If I'm taking a chance on one it has to be Darnold. He's the youngest and has upgraded arm talent compared to Teddy that you're hoping to develop.

Are you kidding?

Minshew has an arm and doesn't play scared!

Wait until after the draft.....let’s see how that plays out before doing anything.

If I can get Minshew for a couple of more years for a 4th or later, I'm getting him. You're only talking 2 mil per year! He's an upgrade to somebody!

I would give a 3rd to see if Darnold could reach his potential. I think at this point we know what Minshew and Garrapolo are.

So wait.  We know what Minshew is despite the fact he only has two seasons under his belt, but we aren't sure about Darnold who has three?

Please allow me to remind you that over the last two seasons, the Jags have won exactly seven games.  All of them with Minshew under center.  They are 7 - 13 under Minshew, which is not wonderful.  They are 0 - 12 under every other QB.

Math it up for me.  Why is Darnold more attractive?  Yes, higher draft pick.   Is it TD:INT?  Nope, that's Minshew by a MILE.  Is it completion percentage?  Again, Minshew.  TD%?  Minshew.  INT%?  Minshew.  Yards per game?  Minshew.

Pound for pound, both have been on awful teams with Minshew showing the ability to actual lead the team.  In 20 games, he's got four game winning drives with no talent around him.

And Garopollo?  Better than both of them, by a mile.  The only knock on Garopollo (and it's a big one) is that he can't stay healthy.  The one year he's healthy Jimmy G went 13-3 with four game winning drives.
