He could "weigh in" with the team's football people, but I'd rather he didn't.

An owner is going to talk to the front office and coaches regarding blockbuster trades regardless of what you prefer.  You don't live in reality if you expect otherwise.

I've never seen the work of people who know what they're doing be improved upon by asking for advice from someone who doesn't.

Right but you would not request a grand jury for something you strictly want to keep civil is my point. You would keep it a judge trial, because a civil judge cannot punish/convict someone through criminal case means. Also a judge can decide what evidence to consider and what not, where as a jury can be given all the evidence to make a decision.

My post meant a criminal trial, once charges are taken, are not about settlements etc.

It is very tough to have a civil and criminal case pending because of self incrimination from either case to the other.

If this is taken criminally, that case usually is resolved first and decides the outcomes of the civil case.

So in theory my hunch is Buzbees wants this case taken criminally through a jury provided with all the evidence and will basically win a civil case based on the result of a criminal case. This seems to me a plan from a lawyer who has solid evidence for a criminal charge because the proof required for criminal charges is exponentially greater than a civil case.

However it is still possible to win a civil case with a failed criminal charge proceeding- but in the case of sexual assault I’d see that as rare.

Of course laws vary greatly with each states, things like cost of damages (not citing the measly $500 that was required to submit the charges), but also the politics of the courts/state as far as whether or not a lawyer will request a jury.

But in general circumstances and most states these are standard proceedings to involve criminal court and not keep it strictly civil.

I think the dribbling out of the new cases has been strategic on Buzbee's part. and as sleazy as Buzbee may or may not be, he 100% knows better than to take these kinds of steps if he doesn't have some legit evidence to make his case. what might have seemed like desperate publicity-seeking in the first day or two of this story may turn out to be Buzbee putting the leverage squeeze on Watson, because he knows he's got him by the short and curlies.

I also think it's not out of the question that Buzbee is still very prepared to settle. in his mind, he may even think the settlement number is extremely reasonable, and something Watson should accept ASAP. or even that Watson should have accepted in the first place (see: "Attention-seeking plaintiff" "Six-figure settlement offer" "But this isn't about money for me, it's about clearing my name" from Watson's only statement so far) but instead all he's done by not taking Buzbee seriously is make him go public with accuser #1, then 2, 3, 4, 5-11, 10 more on the way, and so on.

there's zero percent chance that this is all fabricated, IMO. but what's strange about this story is that whether you believe Watson is innocent or guilty of this, to the very last detail, you're being asked to concoct a pretty insane narrative, based on the facts presented.

either this super high-profile athlete with an up-til-now decent moral reputation is a serial offender, finally being exposed by a cartoon lawyer, and really bungling every step of this process... or idk, what's the best I can do here?  someone is leaning on all these women to force them to drum up otherwise innocent instagram handies into sexual assault charges to sully his name as he tries to force his way out of town? yowsa.

both of those are pretty crazy outcomes! and I'm not sure how much room there is in the middle for it to shake out any other way. fascinating times.

Still not accepting calls?? Good god, I figured they would be answering on the first ring!

I read a rumor post from reporter for the niners that they are still willing to offer Garapollo and picks pending their own private investigation.

I've yet to hear Tepper weigh in on this.

He hasn't weighed in on anything about Watson or even the QB situation since December. There's no chance he's going to say a word now

Yet the all-seeing/knowing Verge has says Tepper "won't rest" until until Watson is wearing Panthers colors...

...so it must be true that Tepper is calling the show because he sees/knows all.

When Buzbee made the inititial offer there if there was more than one client involved, it was a very small number...

...given the current numbers "reasonable" has left the building!

Hate to throw fire on the discussion as only an occasional lurker, but you'd have to be a complete moron to trade for somebody with this many accusations out there - regardless of whether the league eventually lets him off with some slap on the wrist penalty.

"Elitist *sshole" or not, I'd never support an organization that put winning at all costs ahead of the optics of a situation like this. Having to explain to my kid why I wouldn't buy him a Panthers jersey with Watson's name on it shouldn't be a conversation I feel like anyone should ever need to have - and I don't have kids.

Watson should have understood how easily situations like this could arise - even if parts of this are overblown - and from an ownership/management standpoint I sure as *ell wouldn't want him around my family and employees who could sue me for millions in the event he's STILL not clear on what acceptable behavior is following this mess.

Turn your back on a guy because there are "this many accusations out there"? Think this through.

Don't worry about explaining it to your non-existent kids for now.
