He's a Panther now, so I'm cheering for his success, but...

Looking over his career stats, I'm seeing half the time he's a starter when he's in games, half the time he's on the bench. Not many sacks, forced fumbles, INTs or even actual tackles. Played much of his time apparently in a 3-4 defense.

Exactly why did we pick him up? Anything should be an improvement over Whitehead, but can someone point out to me where's the gleam here?

Could be the only type of players they can get to sign here for what they can afford to pay.  Don't over look that aspect of the situation.  It's a key one.

Every-single-one... I thought Rhule had enough of players missing games when he dealt with Apple, Okung,(I believe Russ was truly hurt) and other soft-ass players. He even commented about wanting tough players to play though things. The injury report will be full. This maybe why he wanted players that can help multiple spots... Going to funny watching Teddy line up at safety! Training staff will be tested this year.

Injuries, he wasnt benched. If you dont realize, thats what the panthers are targeting players with a loooooong history of injuries.

Hes a legit MLB, when hes not in the training room....

Yeah, I saw the injury history and tried to adjust for it. On a per game basis, though, well I guess after being a Panthers fan since opening day I expected more from a linebacker.

We've kind of been spoiled here over the years. I hope that we don't lose that as part of our identity.

Yeah I got nothing there.  I'm not seeing how this fits any plan I would dream up, unless it's to get the number one pick next year.  Oh wait! That belongs to Houston.

Apparently now we have one of the best LBs in the league

Panthers agreed to terms with LB Denzel Perryman, formerly of the Chargers, on a two-year contract.

Perryman was one of the better off-ball linebackers to hit the market after both Lavonte David and Matt Milano stayed with their respective teams. In Carolina, Perryman will take over at the MIKE after Tahir Whitehead played largely empty snaps there last season. It'll be Perryman, Shaq Thompson, and Jeremy Chinn at linebacker for the Panthers, giving them one of the better trios in the league. Perryman has yet to play a full 16-game season through six years in the league.

Besides CMC, who it became obvious we were sitting out on purpose, who on the roster spent a lot of time out of the lineup with a new injury? I say new because Okung came into the picture with multiple prior injuries and KK has stayed injured for the last few years.

Rhule and Tepper have their sports science facility and they've said they're committed to providing the best care to their players year round. Perhaps in these three players we've signed, they see manageable injuries that can be mitigated by better care, and believe they can keep them on the field longer. Just a thought. I'm going to be optimistic about it. I'll be bummed if they spend all year on the bench, but it's just a game.

Edit: 2021 will be Year One for a lot of what Rhule wanted to bring to Carolina, now that they won't have to do everything over Zoom and can be in the same building.

Been a solid player for the Chargers since 2015 outta the 2nd round. "Who?" is a weak take.

Lol right. "Who" seems like a plenty solid take for some nobody linebacker from the Chargers. I just looked him up. Part time starter/bench player, low stats, depth signing.

    • I'm still not touching Hunter He again said the other day that he plans on playing both sides of the ball in the NFL.  If he is allowed to do that, he won't be as good on either side as his potential and he's going to have serious injury issues and have a short career.  If he's not allowed to do it, I think he's going to become a problem when the team isn't winning as he's going to feel him not being used on both sides of the ball is why. He's being coddled in that environment with Deion and I think it's doing a disservice to him to prepare him for life in the NFL where your coach isn't a 2nd father to you, to where you can just walk into his locker room and steal his shoes like Hunter does to Deion.
    • He’s a tad behind them. Around 15ish of 32 starters in the league. He’s well ahead of a lot of guys. Tua, Bryce, Cousins (present), Rodgers (current), Devito/Jones, Minshew, Russ (current), Watson, Smith, Carr, T Laws deep ball is weak as poo IMO, there’s plenty. And it’s not like everyone is ripping 60+ers. The key component is if you can rip and maintain velocity of the 30-40 yarders which he does super well. Legit every report out there from Brugler to PFF to PFN document him as good/above average arm strength.  Eye test tells me it’s pretty much that as well, slightly above average.
    • 6-10 carries for  35-45 yds and 3-5 catches for 15-25 would be great.
