That you don’t understand how this affects the Panthers as a team make it easy to see why you can’t “imagine” people being upset with the FO continuously blowing cap space.

Sticking your head in the sand and just hoping everything works out is definitely the rational thing to do.

Lol these guys are both cheap and David Tepper is rich as hell, go cry in the shower

One of my nagging concerns is our new GM comes from a team that has also struggled with constructing a decent Oline to protect their QB.

Time will tell.  Until then, I'll remain skeptical.

Ding, ding, ding... we have a winner here!

This could be a bad thing for the team's capabilities. There's nothing in Fitterer's past (look at Seattle's on field work -- Russell scrambles so well because he has to) or the 2020 Carolina Panthers that gives me a reason to believe we can build a good offensive line.

I hope they prove me wrong, but looking at the two guys so far just shows injuries, an inability to keep starting spots and meh performance versus a bit of flexibility and maybe some coachable potential?

I mean we've got guys who've come from Minnesota's organization (and boy didn't Remmers and Kalil the Lesser work out for us) and a guy from the Cowboys -- a team with a ton of top end draftees on their line and nothing to show for it.

We're going to have to see some magic on draft day and then some bigger magic from Pat Meyers after that.

But ragging about it on a message board helps?  Save yourself an ulcer because there's still nothing we can do about it.

Kalil was a starting LT and combined we are paying them very close to $10M a year. We paid Kalil $25M total and these two are guaranteed $14M even if they suck. It’s not as far away as you think. It’s not as bad, but it’s certainly not backup money or cheap for guards. There are 20 guards out of 64 starters making more than $4.5-5M a year. We just paid injured and low graded guys at top half starting guard salaries. If this is our splurge we’ll live but I can’t say it feels like we got good deals or solid OL.

You can't really go off the total number look at the fine print... they are low risk deals combined they are guarented 2.8 million per contract year.

Idek why we even participate in free agency anymore . We always make the wrong moves or don’t have enough money . And when we do have enough we signed scrubs we all knew were scrubs . GM looking shaky to me already . Draft day please come soon

I don’t know why you participate in a football forum if you’ve already determined these guys were the wrong moves. Michael Oher was considered the “wrong move” too but was solid for us. Trading away a pro bowl Trai Turner was considered by many here the “wrong move” and he’s just been cut from the Chargers roster.

These guys are being paid backup money. Pricey backups but backups nonetheless. They are both still young and both have a lot of starts under their belts. Not much more you can ask for as a backup.

Determining they were the “wrong move” a couple hours after signing them is absurdly premature and unaware of how the league often works

Yep. People keep saying backup money. $4.5M and $5M per year is starter money. That’s 65th-73rd in OL salary. Well, there are 160 starting OL so these guys aren’t backups, they are being paid like average starters. People look at the top salaries and see these as cheap. They are way less than $20M a year buy these are starter salaries so they better be good. They haven’t been healthy or good so I don’t know why we are jumping on them early.

It does smack of Weatherly, Apple, Roberts, Short and Okung. I really hope it works out but I recall bothe being disappointments. At least it’s not Matt Kalil money but it’s that level of player and just a hope they can do better.

That’s Matt Kalil level play.

Not much better.

My theory is that Rhule's influence is heavy on these moves.  Maybe they sign them bc they feel they have more physical talent than the guys we currently have, and if he can get them in here and coach them up, then it will bring out the best in them.  That's the only optimistic take I have, because my usual cynical self is wondering why tf we just signed two scrubs on the first day of FA and spent more on them than had we just re-signed the scrubs we already had.

So I, and everyone who thinks anything the team does is wrong, should never say it? Did you complaining for years about Hurney help get him fired?  Didn’t stop you from complaining about the incompetence.

Better scrubs?  I got nothing.

Pre injury, both showed potential. They are still really young and have experience starting. They can play all along the line. I just don’t understand the outrage
