It could have been worse...

Who knows, with the WRs and Oline we have, he could very well be having a great season. Remember they have an Oline that is worth sheet and one receiver who is really just an return man. So you just never know what might have been...but what's the point of thinking about it?

if the abilities of the two are so disparate, then why does their performance level say otherwise?

You're only as good as how well you play.

Frankly, I'm tired of the insults every time somebody offers a contrarian opinion. You're not always right, so quit hiding behind condescending remarks. There's no need for them.

Yeah that really would've been worse.

The real reason people shouldn't want Cutler is because he is in fact a baby with a weird genetic disorder that makes him look like a full grown man.

See they look exactly the same (these pictures of Cutler were taken mere months apart soon after his birth).

I wasn't a fan of getting Cutler and never wanted him here but if we could switch QBs I would consider more than just the number of interceptions before making the decision:

1. Cutler has thrown for 9 more TDs than Jake (JC: 14, JD:5)

2. Cutler has 36 more 1st downs than Jake (JC:108 JD:72)

3. Cutler has twice as many completions for over 20 yards (JC:36, JD:15)

4. Cutler averages 10 more throws & 80 ypg (JC 261 ypg, JD 183 ypg)

I concede that there are many more variables in play (OLine, Running Game, etc...) but IMO if we had Cutler we would have at least 2-3 more wins right now and be a playoff team.

And there's not THAT much difference in the contracts.

Jake - 5 years 42.5 mil, 20 mil guaranteed

Jay - 5 years 49.7 mil, 20 mil guaranteed

Not that big a difference when you consider the difference in age, and especially that it's understood that you're going to have to pay a {guy you're trying to get}, more than a {guy you already have}.

With the throws he was trying to make last night, I don't think it would have mattered who was playing WR.

I'm not saying Jake is any better, but like the Bears we would have had trade a good player and half our draft to get Cutler and there's good reason to believe we would have been no better off than we are now but the difference is we would have been saddled with a young "franchise" QB who was turning the ball over at an epic rate.

My only point in thinking about it is the clamoring that was going on for Cutler both on this board and by the national and local news media.

riiight, you are thankful for the fact we have a qb who is unable to throw a football, move the chains by himself, and is a risk everytime he has the ball in his hands.

btw, was there not a thread on cutler already?

Yes, which makes him exactly like Cutler except we would have had to trade a good player or two + half our draft away to get Cutler and would have been in the same spot we are now.

Get it?

...and here's the other thing I don't like about Cutler, when he throws those picks to he doesn't appear to care, he just has an "oh well" look on his face, scratches his head an wanders back over to the bench.

I was watching him on the bench after a few of those pics and he doesn't go talk to a coach or look at pictures or talk to his receivers, he just puts his cap on and sits there until the next series.

Ryan, Brady, Manning - they don't freak out when they throw an interception but it's clear it bugs them and when they get back over to the bench their talking to coaches and teammates and looking at pictures to try and understand what happened.

Anyhow, here's my point: I think we dogged a bullet by avoiding this guy. He was never a winner in Denver and I doubt he will ever make Chicago a winner. Million-dollar arm, ten cent brain and a piss poor attitude.

    • I call bullshit. Brady,Manning,Brees and Burrow are all just ball distributors. And the better thier supporting cast and more experience they got the better they got. Thier best attributes were between the ears.  Now I'm not saying Bryce is gonna turn into one of them but what I want is for him. Is to have a solid roster around him and some coaching continuity too see if he takes the next step. Because everything I've seen and read after the benching is that his mental toughness and workethic are what we need in a QB
    • Many criticize our picks in 2024. I believe that most of them were picked because their ceiling is better than those selected before them.  XLs needs to learn how to play in the NFL. Once he gets up to speed he'll be worthy of 32nd pick.  Brooks, showed why we took him in the few games he played. The ACL injury really sucks but he can overcome these setbacks. Remember TD had 3 ACLs and eventually will be in the ring of honor one day.  Wallace will be a solid LB going forward with experience  Sanders, TE is a tough position to play. He a getting valuable playing time and will become a good TE.  Going down the remaining draft pics all seem to have a good upside. They may not be showing much now but they will start showing their worth next season.
    • I think he's shown enough that if a QB fell to us at our pick we'd either draft a defensive player or trade down for more picks.
