Johnson to start...

Fox is not using Johnson jusy because he is a vet. Anderson is a vet to isnt he? In fact he's been here with Fox in our system for numerous years and has never been able to take a starting spot. I mean if we used the Fox love's Vets logic then wouldnt Anderson be starting?

Maybe Fox is starting Johnson because he's better

when landon johnson was brought in he was actually supposed to be taking over at Sam but diggs kicked it up a couple notches in TC and johnson did nothing.

he did well in cincy but since he's been here he has done nothing but suck.

he has a chance now, though.

he does have a whole lot more real game experience and starts than anderson. may be the better option but nothing that he has done since switching feline teams has impressed me.

could be one of those guys who just needs to be given a shot/opportunity to play to show what he can do. there are some brilliant players who are terrible in practice.

Him being here longer should be another reason why he should start in Davis' spot. And just who was he going to take a starting spot from? Davis? Beason? lol. Diggs has been playing better than our backups and has been a starter his whole career. Maybe if he was on another team, he would be starting, but we already have 3 solid starters.

True, but atleast johnson has been injured, so he hasnt had a big chance to show he's the top backup.. (granted that also is a knock that he cant stay healthy). But anderson has had all the time in the worls to take it.

Anderson has proven more than enough that he's the better man for the job than Johnson. Fox for whatever reason still chose Johnson. I don't know why, but sometimes Fox just doesn't start the best player.

I was talking about the top back up spot

Diggs maybe? I mean for a decent while we had a legit problem finding a good third lb to play. Even when diggs came in we werent sure if he would get the spot.

The fact that he's been here longer and hasnt claimed the top backup spot just adds more that he isnt as good or right for the current oppurtunity.

i see what you're saying.

I believe I addressed this a lil too early above your post.

Oh really? Maybe you don't understand that Anderson can play all 3 positions? He's played strong side, weak side, and middle. Remember a few years ago Beason was out and Anderson came in a played really well? He is a very versatile linebacker and better than Landon. Plus Davis played weakside. Which is where your fastest OLBs play. Anderson is faster and more agile than Johnson.

Based on what? Anderson has a history of playing well as does Johnson. Coaches create this thing called a depth chart in training camp. They figure out who should be the starters and who should be their backups. Johnson has practiced this entire year as the backup to Davis and Anderson for Diggs. Lets just throw that all out because KillerKat thinks Anderson is better.

The complaint could easily go both ways. Stop whining.

Delete if already posted.

No, Fox isn't going to give Johnson who was a 4 year starter and has shown that he is reliable the start. He's going to give the guy who hasn't been able to break the starting lineup since he was drafted in the 3rd round. Way to waste a trade Fox.

Based on Anderson proving he can play all three positions and has played well when he comes in. Did you not read my post? What has Landon done since coming here? Proven that he was a waste of money and roster space.

Anderson being able to play all three positons doesnt mean he's better at playing as a replacemnt to Davis then johnson is. All it means is he can play all three positions.

Anderson has done nothing of more merit then Johnson has. Anderson has been givne a chance but hasnt taken advtage or simply isnt as good.

Perhaps because he didn't get a chance because the guy he was backing up didn't go down? You act like there's a clear difference between the 2 but there's not. Apparently you didn't read my post. Johnson has practiced this entire year as the backup to Davis(i.e. to play WLB) and Anderson for Diggs(i.e. to play SLB). However long they've been in Carolina and what they've done here doesn't matter as this year is a new scheme. Meeks wanted Johnson as the backup WLB and Anderson as the backup SLB. What is so hard to understand about that?

johnson has started at all three positions, fwiw.

2004

Drafted in the third round (96th overall) by Cincinnati...Played in 16 games with 11 starts at middle linebacker...Produced a team-leading 133 tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and six passes defensed...Contributed nine special teams tackles... Inserted in the starting lineup when Nate Webster suffered a season-ending right knee injury in the third game...Became the third rookie to lead the Bengals in tackles since 1976, joining linebacker James Francis in 1990 and linebacker Takeo Spikes in 1998...Led or tied for the team lead in tackles in six games...Only had nine tackles through the first four games but totaled 124 in the last 12, an average of more than 10 per game..

2005

Played in 16 games with 10 starts for Cincinnati...Made nine starts at strongside linebacker and one at middle linebacker...Finished third on the team with 99 tackles to go along with two forced fumbles and one pass defensed...Led or tied for the team lead in tackles in two games...Notched 72 tackles in the last nine games after logging 27 in the first seven...Added seven special teams tackles...

2006

Started 16 games for Cincinnati, making 13 starts at weakside linebacker and three at strongside linebacker...Led the Bengals with 132 tackles...Topped or tied for the team lead in tackles in five games...Recorded half a sack, three forced fumbles, one interception and five passes defensed...Accounted for six special teams tackles...

2007

Started 16 games for Cincinnati...Opened the first eight games at weakside linebacker and the last eight at middle linebacker...Ranked first on the Bengals with a career-high 143 tackles...Marked the third time in four seasons he led the team in tackles...Paced or tied for the team lead in tackles in six games...Registered one sack, two fumble recoveries and five passes defensed...Tallied five special teams tackles

truthfully, i thought bringing him in was a genius move. we had diggs as the weak link so here was going to be an immediate improvement. then diggs started playing his best ball i think because he had this kid behind him.

what we have seen from johnson since he's been here is this...

2008

Played in 15 games, appearing primarily on special teams, and was inactive for one game...Posted seven tackles, one quarterback hurry and one forced fumble...Tallied six special teams tackles.

looking back, he was one that never really did well until he had a chance to start and then he did well. his first three years he only got the start because of injury. his numbers before he got the start were nothing special.

he is the safer bet here. i haven't been impressed with him so far here but if he can do what he did in cincy, i'll be happy.
