CMC and Shaq restructured

Looks like keeping Hurney around did more damage then we thought. Might have ruined Rhule and Tepper honestly. This is sad and dumb. We could replace Shaq with a jag on a prove it deal and be in a much better spot, paying that much for average is just dumb any way you look at it. What's next Paradis extension?

Nah, man. You can't blame them for that. Any above average--even average--coach and GM should be able to overcome questionable contracts signed by an old regime. Moreover, both received relatively long contracts by an owner who doesn't seem to be given into knee-jerk firings or signings.

Not blame them for it but did some of his stupid rub off on them? I'm not sure he didn't teach them things that have led to his consistent failures.

Didn't Verge practically guarantee that neither Teddy nor Shaq would be on the roster this year? Or am I misremembering?

Wait a tic--when you change the contract, it changes the prognosis.  I think, "on his current deal" is a given when you discuss all players.  This is one less hole to fill.  He is a good player, just an overpaid player.

It's a critical error to restructure Shaq. Restructuring a player who should be being released is peak Hurney. It's as if he never left.

Could have released him this year with a post June cut and saved 11 million with only 3 in dead.... net of 8 more than the kick the can method.

Uh guys hello, we’re getting Deshaun Watson

That is what makes this "slip" of the tongue rather meaningful.  Why else would it matter?

I watched the video and Rhule was very careful in selecting his words about Bridgewater.

I mean, it is all circumstantial and subjective, but that is what makes this time of year fun.

You want me to drop you a pin?  It'll show you exactly where I've been swearing.

I swear to God this team continues to baffle me.

Said a couple days ago that it felt like we were about to do something stupid...I guess the Panthers just simply can't help themselves.

Maybe the two worst valued spots on a team, now they double/triple down a dumb move much further... Could have cut shaq this year and saved more as a post June, now panthers are stuck with him getting with a 20 million cap number in 2023.....ugh. Should have never signed CMC to start with. Just 5th year him and maybe tag one extra year, then the wear and tear for cost is too much....as shown this year.

Fritterererer should be reading Herniay left over notes, cause this is almost the same method he used for 15 years...

Shaq is a solid LB.  He isn't worth what we are paying him, but this isn't his fault.  I'm sure Huddlers would decline a big raise and promotion at their job if they weren't up to the task.

Sensitive subject.   Most of us would double our salaries if we get the $15 minimum wage guarantee.

You negative Nancy’s still have Hurney syndrome.  Gurneys restructures were always bad for the team.  Give Fitt a chance and wait for the details to come out

Yes--he got himself into a jam and this was his "get out of jail" move---this year, 25% of our salaries were in dead cap money.  We won 5 games.   Amazing.

Doing some sleuthing around, OTC shows Shaq's base salary this season as $10.18M. Sportrac is showing his base salary this season as $990k with a $1.83M restructure bonus over the remaining three years of the contract plus two dummy years on the back end. Assuming this is correct, Shaq's restructure will free up $9.19M this season at the expense of pushing $9.19M down the road. AKA - classic Hurney restructure.

Moving on... looks like we just covered Moton's franchise tag. These restructures will clear up roughly $14.5M in cap space and Moton's tag will hit us somewhere between $13.5M and $14M.

And that can mean that we are going to have some coins in our pockets on Black Friday.

Couldn't find a summary tweet like with CMC, but here's the cached page from Spotrac:

And the updated one for Shaq:

Went from a cap hit of $14.18M this upcoming season to a cap hit of $6.828M, freeing up around $7.5M. Combined with CMC's restructure freeing up $5.638M, this opens up a little over a combined $13M

Just about enough to cover the Moton tag.

Might as well make them untradeable.

Two ass contracts for players that aren't helping the team put up wins. Overpaid, overrated, stats players.

CMC healed.  If you say he did not in 2019, I will giggle and then block you.

    • The other draft picks have turned out pretty well. Brooks will too.
    • I'm still not touching Hunter He again said the other day that he plans on playing both sides of the ball in the NFL.  If he is allowed to do that, he won't be as good on either side as his potential and he's going to have serious injury issues and have a short career.  If he's not allowed to do it, I think he's going to become a problem when the team isn't winning as he's going to feel him not being used on both sides of the ball is why. He's being coddled in that environment with Deion and I think it's doing a disservice to him to prepare him for life in the NFL where your coach isn't a 2nd father to you, to where you can just walk into his locker room and steal his shoes like Hunter does to Deion.
    • He’s a tad behind them. Around 15ish of 32 starters in the league. He’s well ahead of a lot of guys. Tua, Bryce, Cousins (present), Rodgers (current), Devito/Jones, Minshew, Russ (current), Watson, Smith, Carr, T Laws deep ball is weak as poo IMO, there’s plenty. And it’s not like everyone is ripping 60+ers. The key component is if you can rip and maintain velocity of the 30-40 yarders which he does super well. Legit every report out there from Brugler to PFF to PFN document him as good/above average arm strength.  Eye test tells me it’s pretty much that as well, slightly above average.
