Chris Simms Just Released his 2021 QB Rankings

Troll rankings.  What he got right is that Trask is not legit, not starter material.

I posted his previous year predictions below this years list where he ranked Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray as his top QBs in the respective classes, as well as an article detailing how he thought Mahomes was the most special talent in the 2017 draft.

I am going to be "that guy" for a minute....

We have all been reading about players based on stats and programs etc. and we all have read the millions of people who are not really qualified to evaluate players in depth but we believe them, and there is a general consensus that seems to change (with QBs a lot) right before the draft.  And the draft rarely goes the way any of us think it might, and that baffles us, because we are very informed with recycled, uninformed perspectives circulated by people trying to get you to click on their names.  And steeped in this propagandized pot of misinformation, some of us have the gall to criticize a person with venom and unsubstantiated allegations because what he says does not equate to your "research" and understanding.  There are so many variables--college program, support staff, coaches, players, etc.  that we really do not know--nobody does.  So what Simms does is he cuts through all that and offers a perspective based on his understanding of what makes an NFL QB successful.  You can see what he values, and a son of an NFL QB who played QB in the NFL who has been working as an NFL analysis and QB talent evaluator for 20 years---who the hell is he to tell David Newton or Shithead Jones about NFL QB play?  

This is not about clicks, race, or anything else--it is an expert's opinion and he gives reasons for each opinion that none of us are able to attack--so we just attack him in general and try to dismiss him.  I personally think he makes strong points and since so much depends of support staff, coaches, players etc. at the next level, the player is rarely the one who busts--the organization did not provide a realistic opportunity to succeed.  Some GMs see the QB as the messiah, hoping he will solve all problems.  Nope.  He is 1 of 11.

We’ve covered Chris Simms’ lists before. Say what you want about his football IQ (or lack thereof), but the man is VERY bad at making lists. If he were Santa Claus, the bullies would get PS5s and the nice, quiet kids a lump of toxic coal. When he goes to the grocery store for milk and eggs, he comes back with three bags of brown rice, one jackfruit, and squid ink. His weekend to-do list only has one item on it: “Burn my own house to the ground.” That’s how bad this dude is at lists. But if you needed even more evidence, Simms happily obliged on Wednesday, dropping this absolute dud into the ravenous internet feeding pen.

 

So please, someone—ANYONE—over at NBC Sports, keep Simms away from the list machine. Let him have the graphs and the charts. Hell, even a venn diagram or two. But for the good football—FOR THE GOOD OF AMERICA—we beg you: No. More. Lists.

What I find so interesting is how BUTTHURT people get over these player rankings before the draft even happens. 100 different guys can evaluate 100 different prospects and each list would be completely different. No real way to see how good these predictions are until a few years down the line.

People become personally invested in “their guy”. I have several prospects/scenarios I’d be thrilled with.

Oh I do too. Don't get me wrong. But right now, if we don't trade up to take one of Lawrence/Wilson and we stay put at 8, will be legitimately happy if we draft Jones, Fields, Lance, or even Mond because it means we aren't content with the status quo and we're trying to improve the most important position on the team. It's not about being right, it's about wanting the guy you take to improve your team.

I can’t be happy with Jones or Mond at 8.  I could probably get talked into with Mond because of his potential. I’d be pretty upset with Jones at 8. I’d begin to question whether this team knows how to evaluate qbs after teddy and then Mac Jones at 8.
