Trade with Dolphins to get Watson?

I am not implying anything.  There are insiders within the organization that have said the Panthers would include CMC in a trade that netted them Watson.  Granted they are "anonymous sources", but no less legitimate than anything coming from Panthers beat writers.

Link them. Or quote where it was said.

I'm not sure why you are quoting me but I was pointing out that Miami is not going to trade with us to bolter our trade proposal when they themselves want Watson.

And CMC may be great but he's not a valid trade piece this year for obvious contract reasons for either side of a trade.

I'm quoting you because you were cosigning...but anyway...CMC is a valid trade piece if two sets of GMs and owners agree that he is a valid trade piece. I think they know their team's puzzle, plan and cap manipulation/execution plans better than we do.

According to spotrac its -4.6 million if we take it in the chin to trade him this year. Doesnt seem like a crazy hit, but our definitions are admittedly subjectively.  Designate our last June 1 option its a savings of 8 million to trade him.

2016 Philly traded their 2016 1st(eight overall), 3rd, 4th, 2017 1st and 2018 2nd

For

Browns 2016 1st (2nd overall) and 2016 4th.

Is CMC + a 4th, in his prime, now on an affordable contract since the signing bonus is gone under team control for 5 more years worth a 3rd and 4th in this year's draft plus a future 1 and a future 2?

Id argue that a 1,2,3, and swap of 4s, across 3 drafts might even be on the low side compared to some recent trades we've seen.

Personally, I dont like the deal. I wouldn't make it. I'd rather trade up to 3 with draft assets and ride with Zach Wilson. But this scenario isn't ridiculous nor is the compensation that far off.

I's take Voth's word over Spotrac.

All I'm saying is that we aren't in the FOs' heads. If someone had told probably any of us that we'd be attempting to trade away so much value for DW, as has been speculated, when the DW saga first began, cwr'd have said "no way", but now we've heard otherwise (and that's on top of trying to trade for Stafford).

It's not any "wishful thinking", its chatter on a message board. Don't lose your context! We certainly haven't.

The fact is, there's a strong possibility that we may/will move up in the draft to acquire a franchise QB. It's not imminent, but it is (some would say "highly") possible. It's even more likely due to all the chatter and at least one trade proposal involving Teddy Bridgewater. That being said, we're either going to have to use players, picks, or a combination thereof. We're not moving up for free, or probably on the cheap. At that point, it just becomes a tug of war, filled with enticement, during negotiations. And CMC may or may not be one of the pieces discussed, regardless of his current contract.

Now, of course, we could just stay where we are and hope. We don't know what's going to happen.

You can take Bills word. Now deduct his base salary we no longer pay him because he's off the team.

The remaining number, the net impact of what it does to the Cap are exactly the same.

Trading CMC is not out of the question despite my personal hopes hes a panther till he retires.

If another team trades for Watson, it's done. We are not trading with that team.

I didn’t say anything about another team trading for Watson.
We trade with the Dolphins for the 3rd pick, then package that pick with some others to trade with the Texans for Watson.

Hey buddy it’s hard to talk to a Debbie downer best not to respond to him. Just more doom and gloom to come. Then followed by him posting another topic of doom and gloom.

Let's show some patience.  Whether Watson plays for us this year or not will not matter at all in the long run.  Trade a 4th for stache.  Let Minshew and Teddy battle it out.  It will be a year-long drama for the whiny crowd.

Then we trade back and accumulate picks.  A future first and an extra 3rd.  We grab at T, G/C, CB, and TE in rounds 1-3.  WR and LB in the 5th.

All of the sudden we look ok.  Meanwhile Houston is exactly where they are today.  With or without Watson playing, they will probably go 4-12 again.  If Houston goes 4-12 again, they will have a nice pick for drafting a new QB.  They will be ready to move on from the disgruntled Watson who is still demanding a trade.  Teddy will be off the books and we'll be right there waiting for them with our 2 2022 firsts and whatever else they may need.

    • I'm not saying he should be working in the NFL. He did deserve some criticism as DC there. But Kyle Shanahan certainly did use him as a convenient scapegoat. Now there is no one left to throw under the bus. Anyways he could find his way back to the league in some capacity who knows. But he's old school and in the NFL you either adjust or you get left behind. All the same no hard feelings toward him he's a good guy.
    • he has barely suited up for 50% of our games.  It matters pending how much of our cap and resources go that way.  If he cost in the ballpark of a Surtain? No thank you.  Let someone else  And as far we know what happens when we let talent walk away or trade them…..that’s a mixed bag.   should we of paid Norman, Bradberry at CB? They probably had earned the right to be called better than Horn at that moment of the decision.  Do we regret that? Do we regret Star walking? Can take it back to Spoon.  Flip side is probably Peppers.
    • We need to get better in the redzone. And yes that is an issue that involves all the moving parts. Oline receivers QB and playcalling. But Bryce himself has to lead the charge on that or surely we could face another blowout in one of these upcoming games. Every team no matter how good they are is going to face an opponent that imposes their will on them and requires the same in response. Those are the games where we have got to capitalize on drives. Honestly I get the sense that the Chiefs on some level overlooked us.  So while I am pleased we were as competitive as we were it certainly remains to be seen if this was the beginning for something new or just an anomaly. I think that's a perfectly fair take at this juncture.
