I think you are either overvaluing our assets or undervaluing theirs. The difference in this years draft pick position alone would cost us quite a bit. And I don’t care what the report is about the Texans wanting a defensive player: young, recent, t5 pick QB prospects on rookie contracts hold a lot of value when talking about what a team gets back for trading a franchise QB. Not to mention both the Jets and Dolphins have other good young players of their own they could offer.

I think if those teams are serious we would probably have to beat their offers by an extra 1st rd pick or so to match the value of their assets.

Neither Darnold nor Tua have shown enough to warrant much in this particular trade.  Qbs on rookie contracts are attractive... when they look like players you expect to build around ... but are either of those two that kind of player right now?

If you want to replace your franchise QB as a new coach, you're after picks those teams have to get your guy...  Either of those guys certainly could still develop, and while more attractive than Bridgwater, for a team likely to draft a QB this year, they aren't worth a ton more lol... they aren't exactly players you start so the QB you just drafted can learn behind them.  They would essentially become assets you acquire to immediately trade.

The Dolphins actually have quite a few solid players, but in terms of young players still on rookie deals, they have fewer assets than we do there. They are also on the cusp of making a run at the division so if Houston is set on players in addition to draft picks, that could be a stumbling point. Are they really going to give up e.g. Howard and another asset along with 3 first rounders?  Maybe!  But do you want a CB to be the headliner on a trade like that?

The Jets have far, far less talent than we do, period. But their draft position is consistently valuable in a trade, heh.  If they gut what they have they can offer a few nice pieces.

Both teams certainly have more to offer in this year's draft, so it depends on how much Houston is valuing players etc, as well as the balance of future picks.

I don't think there is certainty that if Watson is traded he's a Panther, but I think we are competitive in that mix because of our young talent on rookie deals and potential star power to pair with it. E.g. I wouldn't be surprised to see CMC and Burns dealt with a bunch of picks.

- John McClain of The Houston Chronical is very skeptical about reports that the Panthers have a chance to be on a DeShaun Watson trade.

- He mentions the Texans would not be interested in Teddy Bridgewater AND believes GM Nick Caserio will prioritize Jest and Dolphins as leading candidates in order to make AFC East opponents bet against each other.

This is just a tactic to get the Texans attention. If they are not accepting phone calls, then one way to potentially get them talking is to offer them everything. If that doesn’t get their attention, then it may mean that nothing will.

It would be like buying a house that isn’t for sale. If the owner is happy with their home and is valued at $10M, then offer them $20M and see how much they love it after that offer.

So the Watson talk is everywhere.  This is a game changing, dramatic shuffling of the deck.  The all in talk is deafening.  I'm not on board.  A website gave trade options if we are indeed "all in" and I got to say my piece on the cons of said options.  In no particular order.

Trade option A.  Four 1st round picks. Robby, Teddy and Chinn.

Cons - first, let's give up Chinn a DROY for us and arguably could have been for entire league.  He is not easily replaceable.  Teddy is obviously not the answer but he is a decent backup.  Then there is Robby.  He played like a number 1b.  He stepped up his game this year.  With this trade add two wr's, backup QB and depending on how ya see Chinn two safeties and two linebacker to our needs in the off season. Four 1st rounders is a deal breaker if none of the other pieces aren't.

Trade B.  Three 1st round picks. CMC, Donte Jackson, and Shaq Thompson. 2022 2nd round pick.

Cons - DEAD money.  We finally rid ourselves of record dead cap money next year.  This trade puts us back in that predicament.  We weaken our secondary losing Jackson.  Yeah, he has had some injury stuff but he has made progress and flashed.  Gonna need two corners.  Fact is I want two corners in upcoming draft even if Jackson is not traded.  Shaq is derided on here but it is hard to think it will a case of addition by subtraction.  Linebackers and secondary are not position groups that have much depth to begin with.  Lastly, Christian is our rock.  Yeah, injuries caught up with him this year but that was our fault not his.  Give him some rest and use a change of style/ pace back with him and keep him fresh.  Without him we will need to resign Davis.  If we can't resign Davis lol we gonna be trying to replace CMC's production.  Good luck.  The 2nd round next year is almost inconsequential.  But it would likely have come in handy to replace the talent we are getting rid of.

Trade C.  Three 1st round picks.  2022 second round pick.  Curtis Samuel ( tag and trade) Derrick Brown, and Donte Jackson.

Cons - Again Donte has not been a world beater but corners are a slow development group.  The slow development is part of the reason it's not too bright to cut bait yet.  Speaking of giving up too early on a talent.  Brown is everything you want in a DT.  Legit Primetime guy in the middle of the defense.  What we need to be worried about is giving him a running partner beside him not having to replace him AND add another player in the middle.  As far as Curtis goes if we gonna tag him we should keep him.  He became mr. clutch this season.  Trading him and possibly losing DJ Moore in free agency in the future is using monopoly terms "do not pass GO, do not collect 200 dollars" self inflicted f*#kery.

TLDR synopsis.  Without the draft capital and young stars under rookie contracts to contribute to the rebuild its all gonna fall on the shoulders of the prize trade target to make it happen.  There will be missing pieces of the puzzle.  We can pretend we are the Rams and just trade for big names and try to free agency our way to the promise land or we can build through smart moves in free agency and development of talent through the draft.  I vote the later.  We brought rhule, Fitterer and Brady in to develop and build.  To go for a shortcut now is impatient.

^read that article. Garbage piece. Including Samuel as a sign and trade is so unrealistic.

It's all speculations.  It's all click bait.  But I'm legitimately worried that Tepper is a knee jerk impatient twit like half of our fellow fans.  Difference is they are ineffectual twats and Tepper actually signs the checks so he can make things happen (even if he shouldn't)   I just feel they could wait two years into a rebuild before we start making drastic decisions. It's a slippery slope.  Say we go big trade for the  prize, off season hero's and everyone is talking bout how Carolina is ready for the spotlight.  Then not surprisingly for me we fall short, say divisional playoff loss.. Then a couple years down the line after the shine of Watson and likely Rhule has faded we are looking for a new head coach and QB.    It's kinda ironic that the road to mediocrity could be trying to take a shortcut to success.

In reality, is Watson really that good? Are the Texans really that much worse a team than we are? If we trade away our best players and draft picks (which Houston did last year to appease Watson), we'll be in the same boat and Watson will be crying again next year.

    • I have no clue how much he will be on the field. I hope he plays well and doesn't get injured. Keep in mind that rookie rbs are typically hampered by struggling a bit with pass protection assignments. It seems it is a bit more of an adjustment from the college game.
