Rhule had two separate stints at Temple.

Knighton was at Temple from 2005 to 2008. Rhule joined Temple in 2006 as the defensive line coach, so he'd have coached Knighton directly.

In the years that followed,  he took other roles before eventually being named head coach in 2013.

Dang I thought it was reference when Rhule was the HC and forgot about his first stint.

Believe it or not folks, we've actually got three or four assistant coaches on staff now who did not coach under Matt Rhule at Baylor or Temple.

Chase Blackburn , Matt Pillar, Don Johnson is all the ones I got off the mind. I think the TE coach had no corrections, but unsure.

I thought you were joking, but yeah. They hired this guy.

Don Johnson, Pass Rush Specialist

Johnson was the defensive line coach in San Diego when their defensive coordinator was...a guy we know.

A good move to bring an experienced DL coach on board. Okam has a good resume but limited pro experience and Knighton, with limited coaching experience. Both can learn from him. Solid move by the Panthers.

Looks like they are also giving younger guys a shot which is fantastic honestly. You see a lot of teams go with the Boomer Buddies. I really love the idea of what they said with trying to have a "start up mentality" and since I work in Software Engineering I know exactly what they mean and we have that same process in place.
We'd rather hire someone who is a culture fit over an impressive resume with an unimpressive attitude. This does lead to hiring less experienced people but if they pass all the 4 interviews you know they will be the type of person who can be taught up and learn along the way. It's much harder to teach someone to not be a douchebag/asshole/sexual harasser/etc.
