If you make zero changes but swap Watson for Teddy with last year's roster, that's worth likely 3-4 more wins alone. Again, I agree that the OL needs improvement but if a desired QB is available the team has to get him and improve the OL in parallel as they can.

If the goal is only to make the playoffs then yes 3-4 more wins is cool but if we want to be a consistent winner then a longer view is necessary.  Sorry I'm on board on a rookie salary QB that booms rather than a proven guy that cost a arm and leg.  Let Houston drown.  We can keep swimming.  We are not treading water, promise we are on our way.

The oline played great the first half of games. Then checked out at half time. Where is the stats for that? That poo is awful.

Add in Moton played at a high level and Okung did too when he was in.

And they still ranked #18 in the NFL.

It’s a bigger problem than people think. TB sucks yea but it’s just fuging lazy to say the oline isn’t that big of a problem.

It’s actually worse than people think.

IMO this is where faith in the regime comes in. I would certainly like the rookie contract as well but those guys are all unknowns. Watson is a proven top-level QB.

And agreed also that winning it all is the priority. I'm trusting the staff and FO to have and execute a big-picture plan, be it a vet QB at cost or a rookie.

Yes, when everything else goes perfectly, Teddy can effectively complete short passes and sometimes our very good YAC receivers can do something with them.

Lol yeah it didn’t work for him on 4th and 7 when he threw it for 2 yards. That play right there just pissed me off, I was done with his ass after that. Anybody trying to take up for ass don’t watch a damn thing.

That said putting watson behind a average rag tag group of lineman will not bring the results some expect.  Watson likes a clean pocket ( all qbs prefer it ) but his rushing disguises the fact he holds onto the ball awhile.  He has taken sacks a lot because of his rushing and holding the ball.  That's not gonna change.  I'm gonna get some poo but if CMC is healthy and we improve the oline I do think teddy could be better.

Yeah, that was awful. But I think the moment the staff quit on him was when he threw them under the bus for getting the play call in late so that he couldn't check to a run on the play where he missed DJ Moore wide open in the endzone nearly resulting in DJ getting injured. I honestly think that was the moment when Teddy officially had no future beyond the '20/'21 season in Carolina.

I see my point didn’t get across to the narrow minded, so let me reiterate. I used this graphic to illustrate that even the most mediocre of QB can look proficient with a clean pocket. This franchise hasn’t seen true effort to build a stable efficient OL. Now is the time. Luck is the best recent example outside of Cam for a generational talent being wasted because of blatant negligence. If we want to believe this regime is any less oblivious than the last will be the next step towards sustained success and that is investing HEAVILY into the OL. They went all out in defense since it was the weakest link in the team. This year we have 1 I repeat 1 starter from last years line on contract. This year we should see significant draft capital used on the line. A decent amount of free agents brought in and Moton hopefully resigned or tagged. This is the next step necessary to build a perennial winner. A QB at this point is a luxury with all the needs we have. If we get “our guy” great if not do what’s proven to set up future success. That is all.

My point was no matter who the QB is you need OL help to give them the best chance to succeed.

No pocket is always clean, and most QBs will have decent stat line when cherry picking plays when they had a clean pocket. Of course having the best oline possible is ideal and helps out QBs, no one would ever argue otherwise. But we could have the ‘93 Cowboys’ oline and with Teddy back there we aren’t going anywhere.

I’ve seen Watson hold the ball too long (usually when he has no one open). He is 25 and still is developing and is currently one of the top QBs in the league as is.  Imagine how good he can be in a couple more years. The great QBs (Brady, Rodgers, and Brees) also hold the ball, but usually have top lines to protect them which I think is part of your point. I’m hoping you are saying Teddy can be “better” as in better than he was last year and not better than Watson. Watson behind an average line is 1000x better than Teddy behind an All Pro Line.
